Meath v Armagh

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I was wondering when the first Ratoath bashing after the All Ireland semi final loss.
browncows, I presume you don't know a lot about St. Mary's as a team as if you did you would realise that 7 of their side are Kerry SFC champions. And they have a 5 time All Ireland winner in their side. I'd be fairly confident they'd hammer any senior team in Meath as well.
Two of the "best four" teams in the county (going by last season's semi finalists) recently won the Meath IFC. Tell me, how did they do in their respective All Ireland series? Also, the best team in the county were knocked out by a poor Longford side in the Leinster SFC.
I'd personally like to try Finn at CHB as I don't think he's great at wing back. Shane McEntee did OK coming off the bench in the O'Byrne Cup. As for players from NOM, well that's a bit difficult seeing as pretty much half their team have retired from Intercounty football. With Na Fianna, Downey looks like he'll suffer from the same problem as a lot of our forwards in that he's too small. I do like McDonagh though. He wins a lot of dirty ball but just needs to score more.

And honestly, if you take what NMM says about Ratoath as anything but trolling then more fool you.

Ratoath Royal

I wouldn't mind what Browncows says,he likes having constant digs at certain clubs and players from them.

As much as I enjoyed seeing him playing with Meath can we please just all agree to never mention Peader Byrne on any thread (except club threads) again?

From what I seen at the match starting with the backs I thought they were very solid, Burke caught out a few times positionally and not really sure if its nerves or something but Finn seems very apprehensive about going forward. Wants to get rid of straight away but doesn't wan to kick it. Thought Power and Harnan got really stuck in, liked their physicality.

Midfield was very good, thought Rooney was getting fouled a lot by the Armagh sub in the second half. Seem to be holding his arm a lot.

Impressed with COS, McEntee and Smyth worked very very hard but ultimately don't think they offered enough. McMahon and Lenihan didn't have great days from what I've seen so far I think McMahon had an off day and the conditions didn't suit him. Lenihan on the other hand I feel the jury is still out on, hasn't really performed yet and has plenty of chances. Sean Tobin was very impressive would start him. Very happy with Newman, won a lot of ball took his goal well and defended from the front and how about that free in the second half from about 55 meters out! Wind or not it was very impressive.

Nothing against Finn but I just think douglas would manage the physical aspect better. Both players I think are great additions to the panel and really shores up the options off the bench

Ratoath Royal quote: 'I'd be fairly confident they'd hammer any senior team in Meath as well'. You obviously do not know very much about senior football inside the county!! and your friends knowledge is about at the same level. The fact was that indeed ye were hammered all over the pitch by an intermediate side who have to combine with another side to compete in the senior championship, that says it all. For the record the Kerry senior champions did not win much in Munster and the competition was won by the Tipp champions. Ye may know a little bit more in 2016 when you get the opportunity to participate in senior. Reading your many posts I just wonder will any of the senior teams bother turning up or will they just hand ye the Keeghan cup!!! When I read comments like 'they had an off day' and the player was good because 'he got stuck in'- it say it all.

browncows, that's a lot of hate in one post.
I know quite a bit about senior football in Meath thanks. I know enough to realise that a very talented Kerry team with a 5 time All Ireland winner in their side would do quite well in a county whose champions have won only won a single game in Leinster in the past five years.
And you're right, the Kerry champions did not win much in Munster. But that's only because they didn't play a single game in Munster. South Kerry won the Kerry SFC while Legion represented Kerry in Munster. But given the way you've been going on, I didn't expect you to know that.

And I don't know whose posts you were reading, but they weren't mine. I haven't made a single comment about our Keegan Cup chances this year. It really doesn't help you look any better by making rubbish up.
And you never answered my question. You talked about the best four teams in the county (presumably basing that on last years' semi finals which is fair enough) but neglected to mention how Na Fianna and Kells got on in their recent IFC exploits outside the county.

Anyway, carry on with that gigantic chip on your shoulder regarding Ratoath. I'll just carry on supporting each player in green and gold regardless of the club they play for.

Ratho Royal, I don't think he has a chip with rathoath as much as he just has nothing good to say about anything.. His posts are always directly opposite to everyone else's on the forum to purely to get a rise.. If everyone stops responding to his posts he'll hopefully give up but I doubt it as he is full of hot hair. Also you pointed out he never has facts, just rumours from what he heard down his local bookies.

Lads, I hope I didn't kick this off. I was really saying that there seemed a bias towards Ratoath in the team selection and I questioned was it from a Ratoath supporter. Of course everyone is entitled to pick a team from their pov, I just think that several players not well known have done well in the O'Byrne but werent picked last weekend or in most peoples choices. This includes Alan Douglas as mentioned, Barry Tormay and James Reilly. The probability is that Ratoath supporters may not have seen these guys playing unless they are going to a lot of club games as the OB cup clashed with Ratoath games.

Regarding Ratoath, I am very interested in how they fare next season and I expect them to be in the shake up along with Ashbourne, Na Fianna and NOM. Their are a successful squad, now with experience and heading into their peak.

To be fair, I don't think that he is trying to get a rise. Its just that he knows everything there is to know about football, and all the rest of ye know absolutely nothing!

It is quite amazing how sensitive some posters are and it is exceptionally easy to windup a few who take themselves a little bit to serious!- Its only a game of football so nobody should get too exited unless of course you are playing. The best of luck to all the players next weekend (Ratoath included) and I just hope nobody gets injured. Oldsam - you sum it up well.

Always amuses how often people use the "sensitive" defence. Tis a discussion forum. If you make stupid statements like you did browncows, don't start crying when someone proves you wrong. NMM used the same defence.

Anyway, onwards to Fermanagh. Obviously I'd like to see Tobin start, Douglas did enough in the O'Byrne Cup to merit more than a token appearance.

Ratoath Royal - Posting stupid statements is a past time of yours. You need to take of the blinkers off and be able to see the other good players from inside the county even if they are not from your own club or adjoining club!!!

Out of curiosity Browncows, who are all of these good players from around the county? You have said on another thread that there are a few defenders who don't deserve to be there, and 2 or 3 forwards who have had enough chances in the past, and should be dropped.
So lets hear it- put out the 1-15 you would like to see start, plus 6-8 subs and lets debate that. Otherwise it seems that you are just knocking other posters for the sake of it., without putting up anything constructive of your own.

For the record, this is the 15 I would start the next day (assuming Graham Reilly and Donnacha Tobin are not fit)

McHugh
Keoghan
McGill
Tormey
Douglas
Power
Finn
Rooney
Tormey
Harnan
O'Sullivan
James McEntee
O'Coileann
Newman
Tobin

Subs
O'Rourke
Smyth
Burke
Cian O'Brien
Eamon Wallace
Bryan McMahon
Lenehan
Downey

Harnan and McEntee to drop back into the half back line. O'Sullivan and O'Coilean to play as half forwards with Tobin and Newman inside. Bash away at that to your hearts content, but it would help the debate a bit if you would put up something constructive yourself.

Some of the negativity on here is laughable. Lads like Browncows looking for any way possible to start some bickering. Anyone who was in Navan on Sunday would accept that it was a good day at the office for Meath. For the majority of the game we never looked like losing and kicking the few points in the second half did the job.

On a side note - a young lad named Jimmy Hawkshaw was very impressive in a club game I saw recently. Recently converted after an unsuccessful time playing for Blackburn in England.

Ziggy

He was playing with Navan. Aged around 22. Major talent. Rumours that he'll be headed back to England to play for Bristol City but his father says that he'd drop it all for Meath football
