Last Wednesday RTE 6.01 News and Sport sent a film crew to Sligo to cover a violent incident which occurred after a Minor Football match in the county. Nothing wrong with that. Unless of course RTE 6.01 News and Sport ignores violent incidents in other sports as they did this weekend in regard to soccer. mediaman (Antrim) - Posts: 355 - 11/09/2016 20:23:50 1912877 Link 2 |
The last time I checked don't think either Celtic, rangers or west ham are in Ireland, the incident in Sligo was if a very serious nature and deserved to be covered but then again in your world mediaman there is no wrong in the gaa. tinrylandman (Carlow) - Posts: 387 - 12/09/2016 14:23:49 1913084 Link 3 |
14,410 - the attendance at yesterday's Waterford Galway All-Ireland U-21 Hurling Final more than attended the recent Ireland England U-20 Rugby Union World Cup Final. Imagine that more than a World Final. It 's amazing really when you consider what little coverage the competition receives on RTE TV compared to U-20 Rugby Union which isn't even as popular on the World stage as U-21 hurling is in this country alone. janesboro (Limerick) - Posts: 1502 - 12/09/2016 14:42:40 1913099 Link 0 |
Go on, open your front door and dare to tread, albeit precariously, in the real world.

So we should only report on the good things from British soccer ahead of our own sport of the day, but on the bad news area we should not report on bad things across the water and solely focus on irish bad sport news is that what you are implying

Where did he imply that ?

So you are suggesting that RTE should report on sectarian incidents at a soccer match in Scotland and other incidents at a soccer match in England in order to give balanced coverage following an incident at a GAA match in Sligo? Do you think that if RTE Six One News show other incidents from other sports it will somehow mitigate the reputational damage the Sligo incident has caused. Truly bizarre! As regards Mediamoan, he throws in these random, damaging comments blindly ignoring the facts that for the last 4 weekends RTE has had blanket coverage of GAA (2 football semis, hurling final and camogie finals) - on radio and on TV, endless positive coverage but one incident in Sligo, covered by every media outlet in the country is all he focuses on. Has he checked that all those media outlets have given coverage of so-called negative incidents deom other sports to balance the negative GAA coverage? No chance. But that doesn't fit with his agenda. The guy is obsessed with Six One News and from previous posts it is obvious that he has personal issues with the people on that News programme (for whatever reason) and this thread is his means to get at them. jimski (Kildare) - Posts: 381 - 12/09/2016 20:07:18 1913238 Link 6 |
No the simple fact is the Scottish league being covered by rte constantly. hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 12/09/2016 22:18:21 1913306 Link 3 |
Bump. Ignore the solo runs by Leitrom posters. This is the real deal. The original and best! PoolSturgeon (Galway) - Posts: 2009 - 09/10/2016 22:37:25 1924319 Link 0 |
I see several negative stories about the GAA in the Indo this weekend. No surprises there really. They seem to intensely dislike Sinn Féin and the GAA. And worship at the altar of FF/FG/Labour and Soccer or Rugby. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2611 - 22/10/2016 11:11:03 1928299 Link 2 |
Not one word anywhere on RTE about the mass brawl between Cobh Ramblers & Drogheda Utd fans on Saturday night. Now if this had happened at a GAA match...? keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 24/10/2016 23:48:04 1928775 Link 1 |
Think rte is bad. newstalk in morning 7.00-9.00 is just about dundalk and rugby, seriously thinking of changing chanels, one of biggest matches with dundalk and longford a week ago less than 500 at it. but got more radio time. would be more at under 6 or under 8 match madbull (Westmeath) - Posts: 195 - 25/10/2016 10:31:31 1928792 Link 1 |
Watched the 6.0 News on RTE1 & no mention of the Dublin County Hurling Final which I'm sure had the biggest sporting attendance in Ireland today, apart from the rugby in the RDS. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 29/10/2016 20:34:56 1930093 Link 1 |
And no mention of the Mayo County Football Final either! keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 30/10/2016 01:21:58 1930119 Link 0 |

Huh, so happened to go to the rugby game yesterday..(had very little interest in it but it was an excuse to meet up with a friend who has a big interest in it). On the way to the ground we encountered 2 of Dublin's All Ireland winning team going to it as well. Obviously they had more interest in the rugby than in going to the Dublin county final! Can't always blame the media for the choices people make or for the interest or lack of it that Gaa people have in their own county final.

Don't be so afraid to admit you might have an interest in rugby PS, nobody is judging you on here for it. Don't know why a couple of lads from the Dublin football team not going to the Dublin club hurling final suggests to you that there is no interest in it tho? The big crowd at the game seems to indicate there was plenty of interest. Maybe they were just catching up with an old friend at the RDS as well. Noone need have a problem with featuring soccer, rugby, golf or racing etc but why exclude GAA? The simple point being made (over & over) is that RTE 6.0 News could just as easily have had a short piece about the Dublin hurling final & Mayo football final instead of ignoring it. Of course, if there was a melee in Parnell Park they'd have magically found the footage! keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 30/10/2016 22:34:28 1930310 Link 2 |
