Replying To GreenandRed: "George is not the worst commentator indeed. I always expected that after he praised a player that he'd jinx them.
Not a big man, in stature, I once stood beside him in Tescos in Ballybrack in the very late 90s. I'm not that big a man myself, in stature, but I was much bigger than George. Seemed a nice enough chap even though we didn't speak. I digress." These threads need more comments like this!! :)

didnt tom mcgurk fill in for vincent brown about 2 years ago" According to his wikipedia page,yes...
" Currently[when?] he is a columnist with The Sunday Business Post. He has also guest presented Tonight with Vincent Browne. In 1972 he won a Jacob's Award for his RTÉ Radio documentaries on Ireland's islands.[4] He was the presenter of RTÉ Sport's coverage of the Six Nations. McGurk also spent time in the 1980s and 1990s as a presenter on the regional ITV station for the North West of England, Granada Television."
And apparently a poet aswell for good measure!

RTE wouldn't dare question a Rugby Union international in the same way they questioned Diarmuid Connolly. That should be obvious to everyone by now. mediaman (Antrim) - Posts:338 - 20/07/2016 17:29:38
well if CJ stander was put in front of the media two days after the incident you can be damn sure RTE or any reporter would be quizzing him about it ---

George Hook did the Right Hook for years on the wireless. It's finished now but he'll be on the afternoon show on Newstalk in September.
Brent pope writes childrens books.
Ronan O'Gara was a Tesco ambassador.
Tommy Bowe makes his own shoes.
I don't know where them rugby chaps get all the time to be doing all that stuff and analysing or playing the game. Remarkable stuff indeed.

Between Tuesday and Wednesday's RTE 6.01 News and Sport Gaelic Games received a grand total of 5 seconds coverage (Terry Hyland's resignation). This within 48 hours of the All-Ireland Hurling SF and within 36 hours of the All-Ireland Football QF's games that will bring over 100,000 spectators to Croke Park. Sport doesn't get much bigger.
Compare that to 6.01's coverage of Rugny Union over the same to days. On Tuesday 6.01 featured Leinster Rugby Union's preparations for their next competitive game which is over 4 weeks away. On Wednesday 6.01 featured Munster Rugby Union's preparations for their next competitive game which is also over 4 weeks away. These features which included interviews and VT of the teams in training totalled 2 minutes and 50 seconds between them.
So 2 Rugby Union teams without competitive games for over a month are given excellent coverage and 6 teams (4 football and 2 hurling) with massive competitive games in a few days time are completely ignored. Another good example of RTE promoting Rugby Union ahead of Football/hurling.
Looking forward to the red herrings our Rugby Union posters will come up with in response to this example of RTE bias towards its favourite son.

ROS1 (Roscommon) - Posts:607 - 02/08/2016 19:03:25Yet ou know for certain they were able to show this game live on tv then? They provided coverage via a stream. some weren't able to watch it but that doesn't mean RTE were wrong to not show It on tv" The were able to show it on tv, the were wrong not to show it on tv and the did not have the technical ability to even show it on the limited platform the had it on. That not even to mention all the people who don't have internet/ can't get it/ or have it but don't have the speed to watch a live match. Interesting to see that rte news now are going to show extensive coverage from rio.

mediaman So 2 Rugby Union teams without competitive games for over a month are given excellent coverage - are they showing either teams next matches? thats hardly excellent coverage and 6 teams (4 football and 2 hurling) with massive competitive games in a few days time are completely ignored. Completely ignored eh-rte will be showing kilkenny v waterford and highlights of dubs v donegal, mayo v tyrone and limerick v dublin (COYBIG!!) , yep completely ignoring it they are One of the biggest non international rugby games in the world will be on saturday - rte will not be showing any of this -if they were as biased as mediaman says then they would be showing some bit of coverage wouldnt they? e.g highlights, clip of scores etc
Looking forward to the red herrings MEdiaman will come up with in showing his anti rte anti rugby bias or maybe he will respond to a poster!!

The RTE rugby staff can cover these sides as is their job and do so during normal working hours, 9-5 and prepare pieces ready for the 6.01 and 9 o clock news bulletins. GAA teams involve in the majority of cases a lot of people who have full time jobs and therefore can only train in the evening time too late for pieces to be made for the news. Gaelic and Hurling are not at all ignored but their coverage is very different because you are comparing amateur and professional teams. Pointing out that amateur and professional sports teams are covered differently by the media is not a red herring it is expressing basic facts that you are unable to grasp.

i fail to see how these teams are being ignored when the matches are being shown at the weekend either live or in highlights form. In fact 8 teams with massive games including Dublin v Limerick minors will be covered by rte this weekend

how am i biased - i love hurling football and rugby in equal measure -can somebody not like more than one sport
how are my points childish - mediaman referes to rugby as its favourite son - i am merely making the point that if it was the case then some coverage of the super rugby final would be on rte via showing e.g. clips from scores

ok lets debate thee point he has made - mediaman say "So 2 Rugby Union teams without competitive games for over a month are given excellent coverage" i am of the view that not showing live pro12 does not constitute excellent coverage Showing live Gaa Matches is excellent coverage he is offering a view and i am offering another
i note when mediaman made his red herrings comment you did not refer to him as being childish
lets debate a further point he made he referred to diarmuid connelly being questionedby rte over the incident in westmeath game and compared it to CJ stander- i made the counterpoint that if stander was in front of the media 2 days after his red card he would certainly have been questioned over it
heaven forbid i should have an opposing opinion to you
