RTE sports is very very slowly changing it's approach to GAA. Very very slowly. So I suppose we should be greatful for small mercies. Well done Mediaman- a true GAA patriot in my opinion. His campaign is slowly bearing fruit. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2611 - 01/05/2016 18:51:38 1851174 Link 0 |
I made a suggestion to the Sunday Game. It was about their highlighting brawls in the GAA. I said why not show : 2 Good, 2 Bad. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2611 - 01/05/2016 19:14:52 1851180 Link 0 |
Was checking details of Ladies League Final in Parnell Park. RTE getting it wrong again. http://m.rte.ie/sport/gaa/2016/0506/786581-teams-news-lidl-ladies-nfl-finals/ mod (Mayo) - Posts: 859 - 07/05/2016 16:01:38 1852760 Link 0 |

RTE had articles about the Guinness Pro 12 on their website this weekend. A shameful act promoting not only wanton alcohol abuse but also foreign games. Is there nothing we can do about this? Nothing? Nothing at all? Nothing at all at all? Nothing at all at all because we'd rather be reactive whingers and sure isn't it easier to blame the government, Nana Mouskouri, RTE, CIE, the AIB, , Mick Wallace, the AI man, the M50, Level 42, Nuala Carey, DJ Carey, Ian Dempsey, Davy Fitz, The LUAS drivers, the length of time it took to form a government, i-Phones, Vodafone, McAfee, Nanny McPhee, Simon Cowell, Donald Trump, Sly and The Family Stone, Half man half biscuit, Inspiral Carpets, LIDL, Elverys, The Manor Mills, Sam Allardyce, Climate change, O'Brien's Sandwich bars, Seattle Seahawks, because some people are never happy unless they're complaining about something. I'm not usually one to whinge but I'm not blind or stupid. There is a hierarchy in RTE News sports department. The evidence is quite clear on that as highlighted by Mediaman so mock all you want & carry on with your head in the sand. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 09/05/2016 11:10:38 1853191 Link 0 |
Regarding Green and Red's post, maybe if Mayo developed a "siege mentality" they would win the All Ireland. Not just uphold the status quo. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2611 - 09/05/2016 11:21:15 1853199 Link 0 |
now that you are here galwayford i wish to refer to your post on 22/3/2016 janesboro (Limerick) - Posts: 1502 - 09/05/2016 11:35:02 1853204 Link 0 |
maybe so keeper but rte sports coverage is about more than the six one news - for me showing live sport is far more important - every big hurling game and most big football games (bar the 2 quarter finals on sky) are shown on rte, rte show no pro12, champions cup, no rugby world cup, no ireland summer tours and in a few years time no six nations, so i fail to see where this supposed anti gaa pro rugby bias is janesboro (Limerick) - Posts: 1502 - 09/05/2016 11:42:28 1853209 Link 0 |
Then do something about it or shut up whinging. Can't bother you that much if you don't want to resolve your 'plight' This thread and the previous one on the same topic must be the longest one active here. If someone posted one about referees being useless they wouldn't last a week without being challenged on having a few proactive ideas on how to improve things. What are you talking about Galwayford? Is it so difficult to comprehend the word 'proactive'? GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts: 7927 - 09/05/2016 11:53:50 1853213 Link 1 |

It's been started a year and a half or more Killer. Not giving out about you Killer, you're sound. I agree there appears to be a pro-Rugby bias on RTE at certain times of the year. But it doesn't bother me, though I think Ryle Nugent is a particularly annoying individual. I don't even have RTE TV, bar the Player, but the GAA on Sunday Radio is very good, particularly Mullane. Over the course of these overlengthy unproductive threads I even had a few suggestions to raise awareness, all ignored. Soma was the only one who contacted RTE. If it bothers you that much do something, anything, about it. But if it's your only worry in this life you're a lucky man indeed. I take your point, GreenandRed. Media has a big influence over the public & it is something that irks me. In many ways, it's counterproductive for RTE seeing as they are covering the games & coverage is great on Radio 1. It is interesting how long this thread has gone on for so I'm not on my own in this opinion. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 09/05/2016 18:37:29 1853399 Link 0 |

Mediaman, what are the six rugby autumn internationals that RTE are showing? Ireland have only four games and RTE don't have the rights to them all as far as I know. I've no recollection of them showing other countries autumn internationals as again, they don't have the rights. Roger (Meath) - Posts: 480 - 09/05/2016 21:05:38 1853443 Link 0 |
Someone will have to clarify what Autumn Internationals, if any, RTE are showing later this year. What's interesting from the figures provided is they suggest RTE have already shown more live rugby games in 2016 than they will live gaelic football or hurling games in the entire year (barring possible replays). They have also shown live rugby games at senior international, youth and club level, which is a wider range than they will cover hurling or football also. Considering the most frequent rebuttal of Mediamans stats is that RTE show way more live GAA than rugby them figures do surprise me - it seems disingenuous to lump football and hurling in together as 1 sport for the purposes of comparison with other sports.
