Does GAA get fair coverage compared to soccer and rugby

Galwayford,

...& Ormond is from Clare...

I don't necessarily buy into your theory, though.

Galwayford I'm in no way a sour grape about anything or attacking Football in anyway (I actually much prefer football to rugby). Just because I'm from Meath it doesn't mean I can't point out that there's an anti rugby bias developing here.

Meathguy and Janesboro are 2 posters from not strong Gaelic football counties. There is an element of "sour grapes" in their attacks on Gaelic football in my opinion. You don't get such negative comments from Dublin or Kerry or Tyrone posters. But football is very weak in Meath and Limerick now.

Two significant stories for hurling and football followers today. Seanie Tobin pulled out of the Limerick panel and Enda Smith was named in the Roscommon team for the biggest sporting event west of the Shannon this weekend. RTE 6.01 News and Sport ignored both. No surprise there.

Forgot to mention Ronan O'Neill declaring himself fit for the big Tyrone Armagh derby on Saturday night and of course this afternoon's All-Ireland Colleges Football Semi-Final between the Ulster and Connacht champions. No mention of those on the 6,01 News and Sport this evening either.

Colm Anthony returns to the Donegal squad for the big game in Croke Park. Tyrone make 4 changes for their much anticipated game against Armagh. The date is set for Hawkeye to make its Semple Stadium debut. And most important of all great news for women's sport as participation levels and attendances in Camogie show a dramatic increase. Of course not one got a mention on this evening's RTE 6.01 News and Sport. Are RTE not supposed to be all in favour of the promotion of women's sport. Or is that just during the Women's 6 Nations?

Apologies. Forgot David Moran's return to partner Kieran Donaghy in midfield against Monaghan. A small slip compared to RTE forgetting them all.

RTE Sport website headline today Wednesday 4.30 pm. Doping Chinese swimmers may face further sanctions. Difficult to understand why this is included in the GAA section of the site. Maybe RTE knows something the rest of us don't. Either way it's sloppy journalism.

Sums up this whole thread. RTE put up a fantastic article previewing and calculating the permutations of all the weekend matches across all 4 divisions and would be of interest to fans all across the country and Mediaman just attacks a simple web editing error. There is a clear bias here but it is not from RTE.

Pure coincidence that you refer to URLs here sometimes yet just refer to them as links but never post them. Might give some credence to your claims.

Figures for the RTE 6.01 News and Sport coverage for March. There were 31 programmes in March and the Number 1 item was shared among 7 sports.

No.1 Item.
1. Soccer was the first item on 11 of the 31 programmes (35%)
2. Rugby Union was the first item on 9 of the 31 programmes (29%)
3. Football/Hurling was the first item on 5 of the 31 programmes (16%)
4. Horse Racing was the first item on 4 of the 31 programmes (13%)
=5. Cricket/Golf the first item on 1 occasion each (3% each)

The only change from the February stats is that Soccer takes over pole position from Rugby Union which drops down to second. Hurling and football are again in third with Horse Racing again in fourth.

More details of RTE 6.01 News and Sport coverage for March. This time we look at the number of times each sport appeared on the 6.01 programme in the 31 days of The month of March.

1. Soccer appeared on the programme 28 times out of 31 (90%)
2. Rugby Union appeared on the programme 24 times out of 31 (77%)
3. Horse Racing appeared on the programme 19 times out of 31 (61%)
4. Gaelic Games appeared on the programme 16 times out of 31 (52%)
5. Golf appeared on the programme 15 times out of 31 (48%)

The same as in February Soccer and Rugby Union get most coverage. The significant difference in March was that for the first time this year Gaelic Games dropped down to 4th being overtaken by Horse Racing in frequency of coverage.

P.S. Welcome back Cavan.

Heard about this didn't actually see it myself , watch the spin doctors come up with a twist even Irish water FF and FG would be proud of.
Says it all really

It took 48 hours but RTE 6.01 News and Sport finally (on Saturday) did apologise for Thursday' evenings incredible 'mistake' in showing a wildly out of date item on Kerry hurlers (wrong year, wrong manager, wrong competition). Pantomime stuff from our national broadcaster. One of the greatest broadcasting 'bloopers' of all time. Kerrygate really sums up the 6.01 News and Sport's 'sure anything will do for them' attitude to hurling and football. In case you'd like to see the item in question no use looking it up on RTE On Demand because it has mysteriously been deleted from last Thurday's 6.01 News and Sport content. When you add in their decision not to mention the All-Ireland U21Football Final until the game was actually underway in front of a 7,500 crowd in Ennis you have a week of total and embarrassing failure on the part of RTE TV News and Sport.
