You are right Nick. We should replace it with this: hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 28/07/2014 11:42:49 1627135 Link 0 |
Why does the anthem mean so much to people anyway? I don't really get it, I honestly think playing it before every game when there's no national team present is just a boring formality. Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 28/07/2014 11:55:43 1627142 Link 0 |
Totally correct Htaem. Sooner we become Birmingham the better. We need to get rid of all this backward Irish stuff. Diversity man! hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 28/07/2014 12:07:04 1627152 Link 0 |

But sure listen going to a Gaa match and supporting your county is already one of the most Irish things you can do, playing the anthem doesn't enhance the experience. Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 28/07/2014 12:15:05 1627167 Link 0 |

Star Spangled Banner is played before a lot of sporting occasions in the States. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13796 - 28/07/2014 12:20:11 1627178 Link 0 |
Star Spangled Banner is played before ALL baseball and NFL games Mes Amis. And lord forbid you disrespect that! We are falling over ourselves backwards to get rid of our culture and history and heritage. If people don't like who we are then they know what to do. We are going to end up like the native Brits, apologising for being even here! hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 28/07/2014 12:29:48 1627185 Link 0 |
Oh I know it's not a uniquely thing but I'm not concerned about other countries, we're only discussing ourselves here. Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 28/07/2014 12:32:37 1627187 Link 0 |
The removal of the angelus was being talked about last week on Joe Duffy. Add this to it and cover your passports in brown paper while you're at it. No pride. ged (Louth) - Posts: 313 - 28/07/2014 12:36:19 1627192 Link 0 |
Come on dec lad.if u read my posts ive said ive always respected the anthem.Ive been to 18 All Ireland hurling finals and 8 football finals.I stand and sing right to the end.No whooping and hollering. My point is that although i know the abthem in Irish,i do not know what it translates as word for word in English.Goldrick has done a good job in that.I believe it is an important part of our games.Especially for finals and would never be supportive of its removal. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 28/07/2014 12:37:04 1627193 Link 0 |
It's amazing how in any sort of conversation about the Irish anthem the British always seem to get dragged into it. RebelCork (Cork) - Posts: 789 - 28/07/2014 12:41:09 1627201 Link 0 |
Yes ged. Embarrassing to see that even GAA is infected with this rush to abolish our nationality. People should look at what has happened in other countries which have rolled over to multi culturalism. Try being "multi cultural" in the places those people come from! Explains why the Israelis are not about to roll over and die any time soon. hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 28/07/2014 12:41:40 1627203 Link 0 |

Why is the Angelus a disgrace Htaem? Is it a disgrace in Spain or Italy or Portugal? It is part of our heritage. What do we give up next? hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 28/07/2014 12:50:52 1627214 Link 0 |
Htaem, in hindsight I regret bringing religion in to it as it's a different issue but a tradition none the less. Was the GAA not founded to strengthen our identity? Erosion of identity and traditions has others on this Island up in arms with any sign of a threat. Whether you agree or disagree with what they want to hold on to at least they show passion on who they are. ged (Louth) - Posts: 313 - 28/07/2014 12:52:55 1627216 Link 0 |
If the national anthem means so much to gaels how come the renditions are so aenemic & watery. Only for it being on the screens in Croke Park the Artane Boys band would play it in almost complete silence. MuckrossHead (Donegal) - Posts: 5028 - 28/07/2014 12:53:48 1627218 Link 0 |
Bit of banter of dec to try and banish those Monday morning blues. Were all passionate gaels on this site.Well argue, debate, sometimes take the micky, but ive got respect for every poster on here.GAA people are my sort of people. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 28/07/2014 12:56:51 1627223 Link 0 |
Fair enough ged, I don't fully agree with you but I respect your opinion, I personally don't like national pride because none of us get to choose where we're from but that's just me. Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 28/07/2014 13:16:47 1627239 Link 0 |
