Don't understand why ppl give out about thurles ruining threads. We all know what he like by now. If it not tipp he not interested. Why not just ignore him? That way threads won't be ruined. We all seem to agree he has nothing of value to add. disillusiondfan (Limerick) - Posts: 4279 - 30/01/2014 20:26:06 1539004 Link 0 |
Nominate best player NOT from your own county , NOW that would make an enlightening piece , in fairness many on here allready have . Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 30/01/2014 20:26:31 1539005 Link 0 |
No it's the fact that this is the greatest hurler ever and now you're after stating who the best forward is, who the best free taker is and who the greatest half-back is (all Tipp men), start a new thread for god's sake. 'Clinging to the past' might be a suitable title. RebelCork (Cork) - Posts: 789 - 30/01/2014 20:30:32 1539010 Link 0 |

Although I don't think he was the best, the hurler I most enjoyed watching was John troy. He had unbelievable skill, vision and intuition. Totally unique and completely unpredictable flack (Dublin) - Posts: 1054 - 30/01/2014 21:32:58 1539042 Link 0 |
Once he even snatched a ball off Brian Corcoran in mid swing and no-one even knew he did it till the ball was over the bar, not Corcoran, the ref, the camera or the commentator flack (Dublin) - Posts: 1054 - 30/01/2014 21:35:22 1539045 Link 0 |
English scored 2-12 against Antrim! O donnell scored 3-3 against cork!! I think you know which performance is more impressive LohansRedHelmet (Clare) - Posts: 2679 - 31/01/2014 08:26:01 1539072 Link 0 |

Bobby rackard also kept ring in his pocket. Shefflin never scored from play off Skippy ruth Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3143 - 31/01/2014 10:56:00 1539130 Link 0 |
With regards contribution to the county and the game in general I'm sticking with Nicky rackard. Wexford was strictly a football county until he came on the scene and almost single handedly dragged a county to success. Even to this day he's probably the most fondly remembered wexford man. Ever. Even more than JFK. He also scored 7-7 in one game which I think is still the record. Wexford would not be the county it is now without him. It's also a huge insult that he wasn't included in the millennium team Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3143 - 31/01/2014 11:05:43 1539139 Link 0 |
They credited mick Mackey with inventing solo run and with popularising hurling as the numbers attending the game jumped when he was playing. Still though limerick man or not he is at best second in my view to Henry disillusiondfan (Limerick) - Posts: 4279 - 31/01/2014 11:56:44 1539172 Link 0 |

You are correct. I don't count that because he was out of position. He was switched yo full back where he had never played. He was also a thousand years old by then. Up to 07 shefflin could not best him. After the 04 Leinster semi final the Kilkenny panal had dinner together in a hotel. Concern grew when they realised shefflin was missing. He was found in the gym absolutely killing himself.when asked what he was at he said he'd never let Skippy give him a lesson again. The sane thing happened in 05 and 06. In spite of wexford losing those two finals shefflin didn't even touch the ball Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3143 - 31/01/2014 12:44:10 1539204 Link 0 |
People should not be allowed vote for players from their own county in the interest of objectiveness and as others have pointed out it is impossible to compare players of different eras. How many people who are pushing Ring,Doyle,Rackard etc have actually seen them play? This is not to say that they were not great players but its impossible to judge them or compare them to modern players. In my 43 years in the earth I would say Brian Whelehan was the best player I have seen.He literally won games on his own for the biffos and I will never forget the day he won the all Ireland while injured. juniorbsub (Wexford) - Posts: 646 - 31/01/2014 13:06:28 1539214 Link 0 |

The best hurler I ever saw live was Ken McGrath from Waterford. Such a natural and he could play anywhere. Shame he never won an All Ireland!! Brownred (Cavan) - Posts: 229 - 31/01/2014 13:33:31 1539230 Link 0 |
