Fitzsimons Cup

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I thought I read somewhere lately that the Fitzsimons cup was being played again this year and was on December 8th and 15th. Can anyone from Kells direction confirm whether it's happening or not?

Att. Greenfield, Gaeil Colmcille are hosting the Fitzsimons Cup this year, in Kells (out the Athboy Road approx 1.5km from Kells) this Sunday with Cavan v Offaly at 12 noon and Meath v Westmeath at 2pm, (these are semifinals with the finals & 3rd place playoffs the following Sun 15th Dec again in Grangegodden, same times) This is your last chance to see the Royals in action in 2013 and a great chance to see the new talent that the management have unearthed over the winter. Also a chance to see how the new Black Card Rules will play out

I was there a few times during the summer. They hadn't got any then.
Some of the additions to the panel which were on lmfm earlier were Cian McPartland, Shane Gillespie, David Bray, Cillian O'Sullivan.

They have them lorry trailers as dressing rooms. My nephews played there last summer. Not ideal facilities for intercounty tournaments. They might Iswel use the old park pitch in the town. That is a better set up I believe. Although grangegoddens pitch is probly better

Fitzsimons Cup update, due to Cavan not being in a position to field this week, they have withdrawn, so this Sun Meath will play Westmeath at 2pm in Grangegodden with the winners playing Offaly the following Sun at 2pm again in Grangegodden. Both squads will tog out in the town grounds and bus it out and back to Grangegodden (for showers etc). There are plans for dressing rooms in the future.

Just wondering is it a proper meath team lining out on sunday or is it half the kells team like previous Fitzsimmons cups

Its an experimental side, as are the other squads, it's used to blood new prospective talent, I don't believe any of the Kells lads have been asked in though, and that was 2 years ago when 3 Kells lads were asked in to field.

Its pre season, its an excercise to try out players, of course there wont be a full team. There may well be a few Kells lads togging out for Meath as this is a kells competition, its hardly a crime if there is, they did win a championship. Either way, it is seen as a development game and never was going to be anything else. There appears to be a lot of new young players involved so best of luck to all.
