Its out the athboy road, roughly about 1 km.. Its on your left hand side just over the motorway bridge.. Very hard to miss.. should be interesting to see a few of previous years minors getting a run.. good times for meaths' young developing footballers

What was the point of playing Carroll, Paddy Gilsenan, Mickey burke and Harrington today?? They have all played for meath before and we know what they are like. would it not have been better to have played 15 lads who had never played for meath before?? Just a suggestion

How did David Bray get on?

David Bray played well enough. Lively and always looking for ball. If he got slightly better ball into him he would have got a few more scores. Meath had the bulk of possession for the first half but struggled to convert that into scores until the latter stages of the half.

Yes, Curran had a very good game at full back (sharp and alert). Carroll was MOTM despite penalty miss (very good save by keeper). DC was the main man from start to finish. Also good to see a Meath team keep the pressure on their opponents till the end, even when the game was won.

In fairness the above mentioned players are ones that didn't have an outstanding year in 2013, no lack of effort or heart from any of them but their football was expected to be better and I dare say MOD wants them to have as many competitive games as possible to have them in the correct frame of mind and body come February when the real action starts, these four wouldn't be seen as gauranteed starters ala Reilly, Keoghan, Gillespie etc and therefore are given the opportunity to prove their starting credentials on days like today, there was enough experimentation today in my view to see what other options we have, a good days work I would think

Fair enough they need games to show their worth. I just think in December its pity 15 rookies werent played purely to experiment. we know what the 4 lads can do. O byrne cup and league could be used to see if the 4 were up to it. Still all in all a good win. Good to see many new faces. Exciting times for Meath Football ahead.

+1

And bear in mind Carroll broke his ankle mid way through the league and just made it back in time for the Wicklow game in June - so he missed alot of action in 2013. Harrington had his injuries as well.

I'd say Daniel Queeney, Farrelly and McQuillan would have got a run yesterday only for their U21 semi final. McQuillan caught my eye for the U21s against Louth kept Ciaran Byrne quiet.

Next year will tell us a lot about Carroll if he gets a clear run at it. Done very well to make it back at all this year after breaking his ankle.
