Minor Football Championship 2013

Division 1 is tough to call. I reckon any its between NOM, Dunboyne and Don/Ash. Dunshaughlin could cause another surprise but I can't see them winning it out, same with Curraha. Ashbourne are probably favourites to do the double but O'Mahonys have great potential at this age and I can see them come good and win it should they dispose of Ratoath.

Division 2 is another tough group. Killary have underperformed this year and although they hammered Na Fianna who weren't good enough for this division, I don't think Killary will win it. St. Michael's are very good and will push Trim. Skryne had a good win last time out but won't go any further. If Seneschalstown can field a full outfit, I tip them to win it but Jenkinstown will be hard to beat.

Division 3 is a two horse race. Rathkenny havn't played a game yet but look to be easy favourites with the number of minors playing with the senior team. Gaeil Colmille are next best in the division. After just being promoted, Duleek and NMG and Longwood could make a semi-final. Tones won the summer league but I can't see them doing anything here.

Division 4 is ruined with the fact Cuthbert's are in it. They look to be easy winners and should have been switched with Walterstown before the start of the c'ship. Moynalty's form seems to have improved and they could make a semi with a win over Ballivor. Don't know much about Clann na nGael but Oldcastle aren't great and they should win. St. Pats will reach the final but lose to Cuthbert's.

Division 5 is between Nobber, Boardsmill and Bective. Nobber are a good team with all but 2 of the team eligible for minor next year and they will be favourites to do the double, but if Boardsmill have Charlie Bird and Kyle Dixon on form they could sneak it. Bective are without a few players with injury so I can't see them winning it.

Was at the jenkistown seneschalstown match last night, very good match with jenkistown winning by 6 to leave the divison 2 wide open! Big blow for them though as there big midfielder looks to have badly injured himself! Jenkinstown have to be odds on to win it now

If any of the championship's, 17's, 18's & 21's don't finish before Christmas and maybe resume in the new year, could some of the players be deemed to be over age?

RoyalDiehard,

That can't happen and even if it did, the champions would be of 2013 even if the final was played in 2014!!!!

RoyalDiehard & Growtown.

That sounds like a great one for table quizzes in years to come!

"In what year did two teams win the Meath Minor Football Championship in the same year"?

Donandusted- that would not have been unheard of with various hurling competitions until fairly recently. You could nearly end up with three different winners of the same championship in one year. Thankfully things seem to have changed, and competitions generally now get finished in the same year they started.

Big win for O Mahonys.. Can anybody tell me what the story was with Joey Wallace last night? Looked injured. Ratoath missed about 10 easily kickacble frees, the loss of McGowan was huge as Ratoath had no presence at centre back and the O Mahonys centre forward ran riot..must have scored 1-7 or so O Mahonys are the team too beat on last nights display mightily impressive and able to bring on some very talented players from the bench. Dunboyne O Mahonys semi final should be a cracking game.. Ashbourne will most likely await them in the final with all respect to dunshaughlin and curragha

Yeah looks like Navan are the team to beat after last night performance ! Just reading the summerhill report and being at the game last night why isn't Dillon starting for them was he not on the minor panel ? From pervious years he looked to be on of the main players? Ruairi o caoilean now with o mahonys could be the difference this year

yes Ratoath were missing gav mcgowen , and joey wallace was playing injured but they should be happy with a two in a row , navan were strong all over the pitch and have a bench aswell

Yeah I thought the same last night, Dillon must be only recovering from injury, was quiet last night coming on. O mahonys midfield was outstanding last night as was their half forward line in picking up the breaks. The centre forward actually scored 2-7 I think. If o mahonys replicate that performance they won't be stopped. Himself and O Coileain were certainly the stand out players on the pitch

Yeah just found out there that Dillon injured his hamstring in the first game of championship against dunshaglin . If they play like that again and if Dillon is fully fit and with such a strong bench I can't see them being stopped

With an in form Dillon in that full forward line they won't be stopped. That was the one area I though o mahonys didn't perform in the inside forward line apart from number 15 Corey leddy were well marshalled.13 and 14 very quiet from play after the first few minutes or so.O mahonys did huge damage running from deep,o Coileain and Murphy were not being stopped running through and the wing forwards kept breaking into the space at great pace also Very impressive looking on as a neutral.Wasn't expecting that scoreline.Anyone know when the Dunshaulghlin Curragha game is being played or was it on today?

Navan vs Ashbourne tomorrow night. Predicting a Navan win by 6 or 7.
