Minor Football Championship 2013

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The only public information available to minor club players about their championships is a few references in the Meath GAA Fixture Planner. This shows minor club fixtures throughout the county started on 23rd August last and that teams will have played 4 rounds of the championship so far and will be playing the 5th round Friday 20th.
In reality the 1st round starts this Friday 20th and not sure if anyone can say when the other rounds are or when the competitions will finish. This is the age when most players give up Gaelic football and are lost to other more worldly distractions !! for a variety of reasons including college, moving away and work etc. Considering this, minor grade is arguably, therefore, the most important underage grade of football in the county.
It therfore behoves us all including all the knowledgeable, good people, officials and mentors who espouse the development of Meath underage football

...to make a semi-concerted effort to retain as many of these players through this time of change and other distractions. with this in mind they need to be encouraged through properly organised structures and more that we give a damn whether they continue playing or not.
I reject that a few references in the fixture planner is the height of our interest in them. We can all do better at club, committee, county and development level but the evidence is not encouraging, more akin to lowest common denominator levels.
Time for action not talk. Imho at all levels, we badly need to get our youknowwhat together for the most important group of underage footballers in Meath.

Who are the favourites, is it a two horse race between O'Mahonys and Don/Ash? Or could Dunboyne or Curraha be in the mix at the end?

There are 8 teams in the group in Division 1, 7 of them could win the championship. It's probably going to be the most open one for years! It's a pity it hasn't started yet after the best summer on record. We have to turn on the lights for U17, U18 & U21!!!!

To say that 7 out of the 8 teams are in contention to win it is ridiculous, realistically it will be a three horse race with don/ashbourne dunboyne and omahonys contesting to win it, others like ratoath and curraha may run them close but won't be near winning it

Was a neutral at the trim na fianna game and trim won it in the first five minutes. Ran out winners by 26 points. Most players are underage so I can see three or four on meath minors next year. Summer hill for division 1 and trim for division 2

That seems logical considering dunboyne omahonys and ashbourne have contested all championship finals at this grade from under 12 up.....yet summerhill will win the minor championship??

Few shocks, Simonstown bet a Vincents/Curraha that had high hopes. Ratoath seem to have given Dunboyne a right good go

Duleek/Bellewstown beat a strong Wolfe Tones team who won Div.2 of the summer league , Duleek also continuing their good form after winning the MFL Div.4 ...

Final Score :

Tones : 1-11
