Not for me to name a team I could name 15 20 30 players any time and it would make no difference. The only way that it would be to use your word productive is that they could play against another named team to see how well they would perform.
When one names the full county panel it is not possible for me to then name a team that I feel would be better for its just my opinion nothing else.

I would play Declan McKiernan at centre half back he would be my first choice in that position (6)

Declan McKiernan is a very good player and well worth his place somewhere on the team.
There is no doubt he has all the footballing skills to play in the position, but i would question whether he has the mobility and quickness for Centre Half back.
Unless you are playing with a proper defensive system which if i can be critical of the current management for a minute(we don't seem to be interested in playting),backs at Inter County level can be cruely exposed at this level if they lack pace and mobility.
Look what happened some of the Down backs against Mayo in Croke Park.

I believe that Declan has fantastic potential and he should be part of the big picture going forward. I know people say Paddy King is not good enough I feel if Paddy becomes part of the set up and gets dug in he will be a major assets to going forward.

Right folks, my own selection:

1. Fintan Reilly

2. Jason McLoughlin (Damien Reilly)
3. Padraig O'Reilly
4. Killian Clarke (Damien Barkey)

5. John McCutcheon
6. Mossie Corr
7. Joshua Hayes

8. David Givney
9. Gearoid McKiernan

10. Niall Smith
11. Declan McKiernan
12. Mark McKeever

13. Joe Dillon
14. Eugene Keating
15. Jack Brady

Subs:

16. Alan O'Mara
17. Gerard Smith
18. Robert Maloney Dernham
19. Alan Clarke
20. Ronan Flanagan
21. Kevin Meehan
22. Niall McKiernan
23. Martin Reilly
24. Martin Dunne
25. Niall McDermott
26. Bud Fitzpatrick
27. Kevin Tierney
28. Conor Smith (CuCu)

Alternatives are named to McLoughlin and Clarke as I envisage both of those
being unavailable for the league due to the U21 competition.

I think that team has a strong spine to it. I realise Fintan Reilly opted
out of the panel last year but he needs to be asked back or another
goalkeeper needs to step forward. James Reilly has been a fantastic servant
to Cavan football but his best days are behind him.

Hyland clearly has Killian Clarke marked as the full back for the future
but he is still only 19 and very young for the position. That's why I think
Padraig O'Reilly should continue there. Clarke should get experience as a
corner back first. Jason McLoughlin should also get experience but when
they are unavailable due to U21, I believe that Damien Barkey and Reilly
are very good replacements. I was very surprised Barkey didn't see more
championship action. I know he had an injury but he was one of our best
backs in the league matches I saw last year I thought.

The half back line is the strongest we can field I believe. Corr and
McCutcheon will provide a bit of strength and Hayes is a back who is clever
and can play good passes as well as getting forward. I'm surprised more
people haven't considered Corr as he was good against Fermanagh and has
experience.

The midfield speaks for itself. The half forwards is what we need to be
careful of. Niall Smith did damage against Kildare but so did his man. I
believe both he and McKeever need to learn to track back better. The
forward line allows for two small nippy forwards to play on either side of
Keating. If one of the half backs (McKeever more than likely) is required
to drop back as a sweeper, it'd also allow either Dillon or Brady to drop
back into the half forward line and leave a two man full forward line.

I'm surprised so many people are naming Niall McDermott and Barry Reilly in
starting teams. I feel perhaps injuries and form have let them down recently.

BredffniGuide do you attend club football? Barry Reilly has been in excellent form recently, perhaps go to the Semi Final this Saturday. If your basing your team on recent club form than thats bull, as Joe Dillon has been suspended for the last month. Which game since the u21 defeat against Roscommon did Joe Dillon impress you in? he a bit to go yet, good player nonetheless.

As James will prefers to kick long we may as well try to play to his strengths and keep midifelders short and hit a big half forward line.
Clarke is a great prospect but not a full back yet and needs time to develop. John O'Dowd has been the most consistent full back in the county for the last 3-4 years. Barkey is as solid as they come and did as well s could be expected this year. Two tall and quick and the other a solid tank.

Need a solid tough tackling centre half to block up the middle, Podge or McKeever don't have the pace in my opinion, Damien Reilly, Rory Dunne, Flanagan not physical enough. Dane O'Dowd may work if given time in the position. McLoughlin looked good last year and Damien is a very good footballer. This line has a multitude of options however. Gerard Smith will be a great addition but needs a year with the set up to strengthen up. JP Kelly is a very intersting prospect, great pace and a great engine from wing back, if looked at could be a huge addition.

I think we just try to break even at midfield. Givney needs to man up and be the leader at midfield, McCutcheon is one of the stand out club footballers in the county and with his engine he would both drive forward but also be able to pick up a runner from midfield (Ryan Bradley type).

A big half forward line to try to win more primary ball. When the game opens up in the last 20 minutes we can go back to wee lads to solo the ball out the gate and up main street. What has been missing in Cavan for years is a Brian McGuigan, Mark Poland, Greg Blaney, Martin McHugh, Dessie Farrel type....For years we've picked the 6 fastest, highest scoring forwards in club football but nobody thought about who was going to create the space and see the passes which is why we're so easy to play against. Barry Reilly should be told that is your role for the next 5 years if you can beef up and stay injury free.

Nial McKiernan has loads of ability but....hopefully he copld be gotten into the right frame of mind. Gearoid if he could be set free from midfield defensive work is a huge threat driving forward and if isloated away from a midfielder for kickouts would be a great outlet.

Keating has all th ability if he gets quality ball and he uses the men around him, Tierney needs to be given a chance, has great ability and can get goals which Cavan haven't done regularly enough bar Jayo for years. The other corner is up for grabs betwen any number and could be left vacant for a two man either.

Let's hope.

Kingscourt wouldn't have got a draw against Lavey last year had Dillon not come on at half time and scored two great points. This year against Lavey he was the best player on the pitch by far. As regards 4 weeks ago not being recent, I would see the last three months as recent in football. In what games has Reilly impressed you?
