Replying To gaelsboy:  "Down the standout team, though Offaly will likely have a bit to say about the business end of the cup. Weird how you can beat Donegal and still end up in a cup with Leitrim, London and Waterford makes no sense, maybe the powers that be need to re think it but I'm also sick to my teeth of them changing the format every other year so screw it, give it 5 or 10 years and see if we are still getting repeat winners"
They've since also lost to Offaly in The Tailteann Cup so I don't think your point is valid really.

My predictions :

Fermanagh v Sligo - Fermanagh

Laois v Down - Laois

Offaly v Wexford - Offaly

Antrim v Wicklow - Wicklow (barely)

Yes Down are a big name, but not invincible.

You will never know what you get with Laois.

One of Wicklows greatest wins ever.

9 points down in a difficult place to win.

Penalty save from Jackson.......

Offaly
Wicklow
Down
Fermanagh... Any of the 4 can win it. Wicklow having missed out on promotion the last few years and aren't far off success. Offaly have turned their year around after an injury plagued year. Down are Down. Fermanagh are in the shake up as well.

A fine comeback by Wicklow yesterday, sore one for Antrim. Going by reports was scores on 40th minute in second half , was there no hooter at this game??

With Cork v Offaly in hurling on Sunday already.. is there talk of the Tailteann semi finals being on Saturday?

Yes semis on Saturday this year at 3pm and 5pm.

One on Rte and other on rte news channel.

So the double bill on Sunday live on RTE gone which was a big part of the initial PR to sell the TC. There will be at least 2 Round 3 all ireland games on GAA+ too on Saturday so the TC semis won't get much media attention.

It's a tough weekend to get coverage. 2 hurling quarter finals. 4 round 3 pre quarter finals. RTE moving one semi final to the News Channel isn't right.

Can anybody really predict either semi final outcome with confidence ?

Offaly had a major wobble last time out.

Wicklow back from the dead.

Down have lost twice.

And Fermanagh..........smashed Sligo last time out. Getting stronger.

Down v Fermanagh
Offaly v Wicklow
An interesting draw. Any of the 4 can win it. If the favourites don't make the final, it will mean a new winner. Wicklow just missing out on promotion in the league again. Back to a Tailteann semi final. Big opportunity again but 3 tough opponents also battling for same prize.

A Fermanagh - Wicklow final would be a novel pairing for two counties without provincial honours.
Taking the semi finals out of the limelight is history repeating itself. Happened to the Ring and Rackard finals as well. It is surprising that D3 and D4 counties aren't lobbying for a return of the All Ireland qualifiers over 2 knockout rounds for the 7 league qualifier spots. The Tailteann Cup could always be played out after in straight knockout, with the winner still rewarded with an All Ireland spot.
Hope all going to Croke Park on Saturday enjoy the occasion anyways!

A Fermanagh v Wicklow Final would mean something to the 2 Counties.
Won't mean much to Down and Biffs with 8 Sams between them....

Down want their golden ticket back to the All Ireland championship. Mickey Harte wants the cup and to be back in the All Ireland championship as well. All to play for.

Yes i would agree, the semi final stand alone slot on Sunday Game live was a big part of the GAA selling the TC and its recognition as a valued competition, know this previously caused issue as same weekend as hurling quarters and accept new format of Football(which think far better than groups) means tighter schedule but this weekends TC semis being moved and sandwiched into a hectic weekend could be the start of slow drifting back down the chain, similar to the hurling competitions, which would be detrimental to the tailteann cup.

Hope im wrong, be interesting to see the attendance in Croke Park in comparison with previous years, any neutrals be lost by the game in Killarney.

Lets hope for a good day in Croker with 2 good games for all those who make the effort to support their counties.
Offaly and Down certainly strong Favourites, the mourne defeat in Tullamore probably makes them harder as be no complacency, but 2 competitive semis hopefully, Harte v McConville on sideline could be entertaining.
