Kildare V Meath

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

All in all very good performance.
Defence very good.
Happy with late 2 2-poonters, we were far the better team and that let the scoreboard reflect that more.

If I had to pick out a negative I thought had we really went for them we could have got far ahead much earlier in the second half, for a while in the second half we seemed happy enough with our lead and seemed to be able to tag on a point straight after they got a point, otherwise we hadn't huge urgency to get scores because we were 6 or 7 points ahead.

Kildare were very bad on the night, I was expecting a close game before hand. Just looking at the remaining fixtures I think Kildare will now be relegated as Cavan will probably beat Offaly next week.
Looking at Kildare last night Cork and Louth should beat them.

The Tyrone game now is a huge game, win it and we will probably be promoted. Should be a tough game, looking forward to it.

While the boost in points difference is certainly a welcome one, we can't really read too much into that result. That has to be the worst Kildare team I've seen us play in my lifetime.
Defence was very good and showed the urgency that was missing at times last week. Up front, we were good and bad. The concerning bit was our lack of accuracy from two point efforts from play in the second half (though the conditions were dreadful).
Great to see both Curtis and Hickey back on the bench.

All eyes on Celtic Park this afternoon. If my calculations are correct, if Cork win there, we'll pretty much only need one win in the last two to guarantee promotion give that Louth host Derry in their next game (only Cork losing their last two games would potentially throw a spanner in the works).

So it all comes down to the Tyrone game now. Win and we should have the superior score difference on Cork if they and Derry win out, especially considering we're the only team with Offaly still to play who just don't look up to this level.

Lose to Tyrone and it's a lot more difficult. We would need an unlikely loss from Derry in their final two games.

So looks like we'll have to beat Tyrone & Offaly. Would expect Cork to beat Kildare in Cork so they'll have at least 10 points. Derry will be fancied to beat Louth and Cavan and finish on 12. We can't finish level with Cork on 10 as they'll have us on the H2H. Will be one team left very disappointed after having a good league and finishing 3rd.

Have two win both remaining games and that should see us go up. Cork, Derry can finish with 12 also so we should go through on scoring differance. Tyrone the big game for both Cork and ourselves. They could beat both of us which then favours Cork on head to head. Main thing is, its in our own hands and we should just shade it. Maybe Louth do us a big favour?

Good win last night and thought Meath played really well in defence and around the middle much more so than against Cork albeit against a poor Kildare side. Meath were much more physically developed than Kildare. Beginning to think Leinster could be a 3 horse race with Dublin, Louth and Meath. Dublin and Louth very impressive over the weekend.
Cork were really put to the sword against Derry but it really shows that travelling the length of the country and staying overnight takes something from teams especially this time of year.
Tyrone game now huge and will be a tricky game with all the talent they have. Cork still have to go to Tyrone but we will need to better their finish or hope Louth do us a favour v Derry so expect us to go all out.
The mantra of next game really suits here as it really is all about next one. Great to see League debuts last night from.Charlie O'Connor and Jamie Murphy. Super young players and hopefully will have great years ahead. Also good to see Curtis and Hickey with Curtis getting on and kicking a score.

Good to see a game getting closed off well as opposed to hanging on for dear life or a smash and grab. Kildare were very poor though.

Derrys form is now a worry. Could see us now possibly finishing level with Cork only and the H2H working against us.

Shout out to the young lads in the terrace for creating a bit of atmosphere.

I'm guessing that they felt they didn't need him with McBride on the bench. Brennan said after the game that Conlon could have started but had a niggle so they decided not to risk him. Also said that Jones is back in with the team training and Kinlough should be fit for the next game. Think that would only leave Costello out injured. Should be huge competition going forward to get into the match day squad which is exactly what you want.

Tyrone is the big one, the change in score difference at the weekend was a plus in our favour, win our last two games and we would be guaranteed to go up regardless of what Derry and Cork do unless Cork post some massive wins to catch up the score differential, we are capable of beating Tyrone and the fact that it's a "home game" in Croker should suit us better but still it's a very tricky game, Tyrone are all but safe but still will believe they need another point or two to be absolutely certain. Good to see the injuries clearing up, some very positive contributions v Kildare from a lot of players but I agree Kildare were poor but at least we done what should be done with such opposition and came away with a big win, and it could have been bigger, still a little wayward in front of goal at times but that is something that can be worked on, all in all a positive weekend.
