Minor To U18

(Oldest Posts First)

What's the feelings on walterstown putting in a vote to change to 12s 14s 16s and u18s. Also some big bans handed out after the events after this year's minor final. I do think u18 would be better overall. Thoughts?

You would be hoping considering the proposed motion involves changes both to Juvenile & Adult football that there would be some comments on here.
I would be in favour of the motion of bringing it back to 18 and with the flexibility for Junior football as worded.

Agree it is the way to go. I think they missed getting full support by only limiting to junior clubs. Should have went for all senior intermediate and junior. Therefore if a lad is good enough and ready he can play senior as well as minor.

What are the chances this will go ahead. Would be a big benefit for players developing in the future.

To me, I think it makes total sense to change the minor age back to U18. It gives young lads that extra critical year to develop physically and mentally before being asked to play adult. I understand there will always be a few lads able to play adult football and hurling at 17/18 but they are the minority.
Adding the exception for junior clubs will hopefully bring a few of the smaller clubs into agreement. I just hope that the county board leadership row in behind it rather than adding barriers like what might have happened last year.
