Thats intercounty players, how do club players feel about having to play games on soft pitches in the muck and dirt this time of year?

My favourite thing about people who argue against the split season is their lack of knowledge on what happens on the ground. An astonishing lack of knowledge on how the GPA works on display here. Bravo.

If the pitches are in great nick out here in the west, I can't imagine they're full of muck elsewhere. All club championship games I've been to so far have been played on good quality pitches. It's generally spring time that pitches at their worst and softest. Excluding December and January, which should be non-playing months for almost all clubs anyway.

Are you involved in club football? I am amazed you think club footballers think differently. Do you actually think the GPA has no clue what is going on at club level?

Bon I'm surprised at you. It was the CPA not the GPA who pushed for the split season we have now. All our clubs players I've spoken to prefer the current set up to what it was like before.

As opposed to inter-county players playing on soft pitches and muck and dirt in February and March???? Thing about the split season as it stands is that the vast majority of counties - i.e. all bar All-Ireland/Tailteann Cup semi-finalists - have just about the whole of July & August open to them for club action. They should be the best conditions of the year. If individual counties choose to implement a club championship structure that means they don't use those months for club championship action, well then, that's down to those counties themselves. Also down to the counties themselves. They know by January in any year what date their county champions will be in provincial competition in late October or November. If they can't draw up a club championship calendar to give those county champions more than a six-day break, well, no point looking to blame anyone else for it....

must be very few counties that will have a county final tobe played beyond this weekend, glorius day today, mild and pitches still in good knick. id say 90% of adult club players aged 21+ are finshed football and hurling for the year across ireland this week and rightly so, unless doing extras like trials for county teams or some regional tournament used as trials in some counties. rightly so, let them eat and drink and head off on weekends away and have fun etc. the year is long from late january to late october. i would think there happy out dickie10 (UK) - Posts: 896 - 22/10/2025 12:00:51 2641076 Link 0 |
