Replying To MyOhMi:  "I do think something like this needs a vision and a push from inside and outside of Wexford GAA - attractive double headers in Wexford Park would possibly attract 5/7k people to the park and the town on a Saturday night. It's a big boost for the pubs / restaurants in what is traditionally a quiet time."
Had a look into it this morning and if think if they just reversed the same fixtures and kept the same dates from last year and had 7th replace 1st and 8th replace 2nd in football and then had 6th replace 1st and 7th replace 2nd in football, then there'd be two weekends where we'd have home fixtures both hurling and football

Down R2 NFL and Kerry R2 NHL

Derry R4 NFL and Offaly R4 NHL

Tyrone NFL fixture and Waterford NHL fixture would be one week apart

A double-header or two would be great all right, but would have to think it more likely to happen on a Sunday afternoon rather than a Saturday evening/night.

If nothing else, any football team (other than Dublin) coming to play us would have a long trip to get here, same as we'll have a long trip for every away game. And in those cases, counties generally prefer to travel Saturday afternoon/evening, have a hotel stop, and play the game relatively early on the Sunday.

For example, when we travelled to play Fermanagh in the Football League this year, throw-in was 1 p.m. on the Sunday. And when Sligo travelled down to play us, throw-in was also 1 p.m. on Sunday. Realise of course that neither Sligo nor Fermanagh will be in our Division next year, but just giving these as examples of teams making those sort of trips.

Fair play to you. I thought about doing the same, until I realised how tricky it would be!

If it all works out that way, Derry (football) and Offaly (hurling) would seem most likely candidate for a Sunday double-header, based on what I said above.

Derry could travel down Saturday, stay overnight, and play relatively early Sunday. Offaly can play afterwards and not have an excessively long trip home that evening.

They would be great double headers! Down coming to town would mean the hurlers might have a few supporters in for the Kerry game!
Offaly and Derry could draw a very decent crowd depending how the Hurlers and Footballers were going by round 4.

Not necessarily we had a league double header v Cork in hurling and London in football in 2025 on a Saturday night. To be fair its hard to believe how far the footballers how come since then

Thats good work to be fair. Do the fixtures always follow this format or are they random. I think we definitely have Waterford , Offaly, Kerry at home and Laois, Kildare and Antrim away. Its 3 months away but im really looking forward to it. I think Derek McGrath will aim for promotion but it will be tough as we have 2 tough home games and a couple of banana skins away from home

Agree. The double header against Limerick and Roscommon in 2012 was on a Sunday. The one last year was on a Saturday.

The fixtures are kinder to us this year if thats the way they are happening. Last year we had Clare and Dublin away.

We were only the puck of a ball away from going up last year in those away games against Dublin and Clare.

I realise that, and that's why I was careful to use terms like "more likely" and "generally".

Not "impossible", "always", or "can't".

I still reckon it's more likely that any double-header would be a Sunday afternoon. But that doesn't mean it would be impossible to have one on a Saturday evening.

Have done a bit of looking at this myself after all, and while you can tell whether you'll be home or away against any given county all right (and I think you're correct in what you say there), you can't tell the actual order the fixtures will come in.

Actually used Kilkenny in Div. 1A as the example because they were there in both years 2025 and 2026, and looked at where and when they played the other three teams that were there in both years:

Galway: Played at home in Round 2 in 2025. Played away in Round 6 in 2026.
Limerick: Played at home in Round 4 in 2025, Played away in Round 3 in 2026.
Cork: Played away in Round 5 in 2025. Played home in Round 5 in 2026.
Tipperary: Played home in Round 6 in 2025, Played away in Round 7 in 2026.

Incidentally, "Round 7" means the seventh weekend of League matches. Not that it was Kilkenny's seventh match, as they would have had a bye in one of the earlier weeks.

Anyway, back to the work done by ElGranSenor - if we take it that Offaly are "the new Dublin" in our hurling division next year, it seems the fact that we played Dublin in Round 4 this year doesn't necessarily mean we'd be playing Offaly in Round 4 next year. The order of the games could change.

That's true . Promotion has to be our aim but it will be by no means easy.

Yeah, don't think there'd be a big crowd for the Kerry game if it was a standalone

I feel like they've tried to push Saturday evening games under the lights recently and I like them but if a double-header needs to be on a Sunday, then we should probably try to push for the Sunday double-header

Kerry-Down double-header on a Sunday and then a Derry-Offaly double-header on a Sunday would work

Tyrone and Waterford games might work ok as standalone games so could have them under the lights and could probably get decent crowds

All hopeful guesswork on our part though, the GAA would have to acquiesce to our demands!

If we can't get decent crowds at home to Tyrone and Waterford we may as well just forget about calling ourselves a GAA county.

Would be some double header all the same.

Might be wrong but are we not away to Offaly and home to Waterford? Last time we played both in 2024 was Offaly at home at Waterford down in Welsh Park. I think before that we played Offaly in 22 at home and Waterford in 18 in the first round in Welsh Park also?

As far as I remember the fixtures weren't released until about the end of November or start of December last year.

Saying that Viking down away on a sat and Antrim away would be a savage weekend away in the hurling and football. Who is it we have in the football down Cavan Derry Dublin Monaghan Louth Fermanagh Tyrone. Am I Correct in saying that. My preference would be Derry Monaghan Fermanagh and Tyrone away just because I've never been to there grounds

I don't think league fixtures are done up on the basis that if you were home against one team one year, then you'd be away to the same team the next team you play them

In the hurling league, each team has three home games and three away games so the easiest thing is to just reverse the fixtures from the previous year

You'd end up playing at home to Offaly a few years in a row but you'd also end up playing away to the same time a few years in a row

We were away to Clare in 2021 and 2022, then at home to them in 2023 and 2024, and then away to them in 2025 and 2026 for example
