Replying To Sliotharyslope:  "Our local media are referring to the Fethard v Rapparees game this week as a relegation final. As everyone will agree, finals are played by the 2 teams who have been unbeaten ( or in the modern round robin set up in some sports, lost the least amount of games). The Rapparees have won 1/5 games, whereas Fethard have lost all 5. How then can this relegation game to maintain senior status be called a final. It is a very important game for both clubs, but should only be referred to as a relegation playoff.
Does insisting on it being called a final reward mediocrity and failure to call a spade a spade. Of course both teams will not be happy with their performances to date, but what does insisting on such events say about our level of ambition or even our mindset as a county?
Good luck to whoever wins, but I would hope that the victors feel a sense of relief rather than feel they have any reason to celebrate avoiding relegation."
It's been called a relegation final for an awful long time now, it's not some recent development, I get the argument that we've accepted mediocrity for too long and have become too accustomed to it but I really don't think calling a game a relegation play-off rather than a relegation final would make any difference

We should call it the "Bottom team in each group play against each other with the loser playing Intermediate next year game"
Keep everyone happy..

Rapps gone down, only five years after winning the championship. No senior club in a town of Enniscorthy's size is some fall in the space of winning both championships in successive seasons. What's going on there?

Can't be sure, because the records for some years around the 1920s and 30s are sketchy, but think next year could be the first year ever for Enniscorthy to be without a Senior Hurling team. Definitely the first time since the 1940s anyway.

That's a mental stat when you think about the contribution of enniscorthy to successful Wexford teams.

Not in the know myself, but they've been a shadow the team that hammered ourselves in 2021 since 2024, theyve only won 2 group games since out of 15 and bet Oulart in a preliminary QF that same year.

On that point regarding towns, and it may not be the be all and end all -but that's 2 of the 4 main towns now in the county without a senior club team in either code, and with regard to Wexford town and Gorey, only Gorey have made it to a senior county semi final in the last 5 years. In saying that, wouldn't put it past Harriers beating the Shels.

He started meeting the players a couple of weeks ago. Fair play to him.

Good to hear Eoin Ryan is committing again. Fair play to him.

That relegation final is the worst game you can ever be involved in. Unlike all other games where you want to beat the opponent and knock somebody out, you just hate what happens to the team you beat in the relegation final.
Its a knife through the heart of any club. Our club relegated a team with many good friends playing on the opposition.
Of course there is no alternative to it but its a rotten, desperate game to be part of. Nobody wants to be there.
Bad luck to the Rapparees and maybe they go down, regroup and come back stronger like Rathnure and Oulart did.

Think you're being a bit sentimental there. Every team and club just looks after their own end. Don't think you'll find much tears for anyone relegated.

Are you sure on McDonald? I had heard previously he was open to a return but perhaps that's changed.

Did he tell you Conor Mac will or won't be involved ? It's a long shot but would love Oisin Foley back involved if at all possible aswell . Think he's still only around 28 or 29. Can't see Paudie coming back from what I've heard.

No point in speculating really.

We know Mac, oisin and Barry o Connor would add value but we don't really know where we'll be until a panel is posted.

My only hope is that we're organised and well trained with a good tactical set up.

If we can do that I think we'll improve a lot.

There's a lot of speculation out there so best to wait and see. I think Derek will have them organised and a lot fitter than previous years. We should improve.
