I'd say they might be the best two on the list above! Granted both got plenty of chances too in fairness. Mac, Dunbar etc not sure worth going back for.

30 years ago today since we won the All Ireland . As someone who was too young to remember 96 I would give anything to see us climb the steps of the hogan stand and lift Liam McCarthy . Seeing Mayo lift Sam moved me in a way I didn't expect it would can't imagine what it would be like to see us do it! Afinestick96 (Wexford) - Posts: 1127 - 01/09/2026 23:44:32 2692347 Link 0 |

I do remember 96. I was young but it was quite formative for me. My family suffered a sudden and tragic loss the week of the Galway game. Then we went from that to the euphoria of the all Ireland. If somebody told me then that we'd wait even longer than the 28 years without even reaching I final I would never have believed it. 97, 01, 03, 04 were all years that felt like we could do something. I'm still not over 19....... Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4662 - 02/09/2026 10:30:18 2692366 Link 0 |

Great to win an all ireland and will always be up there as one if best days ever and the biggest achievement . . But to me the best day was the leinster final of the same year where we beat Offaly . After so many near misses and all the annual trips to croke park and some utter devastating disappointment to finally win one the sheer expression of raw emotions that day of young and old alike . It's hard to put into words to be honest. But Will always surpass the all irelsnd winning feeling thats hard to fathom but thats just me . . I d say it was probably the best hurling id seen from a wexford team when it mattered most . The pitch invasion was something i ll never forget either . The relief of winning the tears the hugs of strangers. Not everyone at the all ireland was there for Wexford hurling mist of the die hards were tgere for the leinster finsl. With heart and hand by Tom Williams is well worth the read if you haven't, last 10-12 pages of the book are brilliant.

Seen the newspaper article for the match was uploaded on the Facebook group Wexford GAA scrap book, still stings now, worse than the Westmeath and Corrigan Park debacles, what probably gets forgotten is we missed two great goal chances very early in the game too.

We left the 05 Leinster final behind us too. Shouldve been out of sight by half time.

That was a mad day. We were absolutely cruising after dessie mythens goal and the Quigley wonder point. Nobody gave us any hope that day. Kilkenny bet Offaly by a cricket score in the semi final and we sort of scraped over laois. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4662 - 02/09/2026 16:24:47 2692438 Link 0 |

Doc kept Shefflin scoreless from play that day too

I have the Same feeling about 2019 Doylerwex. I genuinely believed we were the best team in Ireland that year . The Leinster final was brilliant but when I think of that year it was so disappointing we left behind a golden opportunity. I'll never forget the disappointment leaving Croke park that day. We could have been in an All Ireland Final against Kilkenny what an occasion that would have been . We are quite a bit away from that level now it would be great if we could get back really competing and have genuine ambitions of winning an all Ireland Afinestick96 (Wexford) - Posts: 1127 - 03/09/2026 20:58:10 2692616 Link 0 |

I know. When the whistle blew it felt like somebody made a mistake and it just couldn't be over. We were staying in Spanish point in Clare the week after and some auld lad just kept going on about how we blew it and it should have been ours...... Looking at cork and Limerick now it's hard to see the gap closing any time soon. We just need an absolutely mammoth effort at all levels. Coaching young lads I'm seeing a huge lack of ambition. They're not even dreaming of winning an all Ireland with Wexford which makes no sense to me. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4662 - 04/09/2026 10:01:22 2692654 Link 0 |

I feel like as a Wexford person you always go in hope but never really believe you're going to do it. In 2019 for at last a few minutes I let myself believe we were going to do it. Chin got his goal to put us 5 points up and John McGrath got sent off late in the second-half. For a brief few minutes I believed we'd win the All Ireland having already beat the Cats and having a great record with no fear of them. The rest is history as they say.... It feels like as a county we are really downbeat on our hurling at the moment . We need a spark to get everyone back believing again. I'm praying Derek McGrath can really re energise our seniors that would be a huge help to grow enthusiasm again in the county. I feel like we need a breakthrough at underage don't know if one is coming though unfortunately.

Agree fully with the mammoth effort levels. Have we any word on who is involved with the minor hurling for 2027 or what's happening there?

To be fair that might well happen. We were all pretty low back in 2012/13 before the big win over Clare in the park sparked life into us all. We did have a serious 21 team coming then though Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4662 - 04/09/2026 15:43:36 2692747 Link 0 |

We lost to Antrim in the u21 semifinal in 2013. But it was a great year for New Hope for sure. The start of many victories against the Empire over the following decade! Seriously though, some of those players like Chin probably have as good a win/loss ratio against Kilkenny at u21 and Senior over their careers as any Wexford hurlers ever had.
