Why what's the exception when you know Quarter Final's are held at HQ?

Don't think Tyrone should be too fearful of them tbh boxtyburgerbuns (Leitrim) - Posts: 388 - 23/06/2025 14:06:55 2620310 Link 0 |

Why? Emmmm maybe because it's home field ADVANTAGE for the Dubs. Very simple. I'm fine with the other matches and fine with the AI Final and Semi Finals being in Croke Park. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2568 - 23/06/2025 14:25:06 2620317 Link 1 |
But ( according to Dublin folk) croker isn't their home ground.......so there's no advantage to the Dubs by playing there.

As Jim says its us against the rest. They are trying to get rid of us early, before the semi finals.

People will give out about absolutely everything give it a rest; Quarter finals are always double headers in Croke Park and are great days out. Must be exhausting having to constantly find something else to moan about TobeaRossie (Roscommon) - Posts: 165 - 23/06/2025 15:48:06 2620371 Link 2 |
They could drop out and let the team they bet go through instead if it's that bigca problem!

As Joyce said yesterday when asked about a short turnaround after a tough game against Down and 3 weekends on the spin, it'd be a lot worse if you were sitting at home with no game to play for the rest of the summer.

Dublin's two best championship performances this year irrespective of the opposition have been in Pairc Esler and Pearse Stadium. Two of their poorest performances have been in Croker, 18 wides and 3 technical breaches v Armagh and again on Saturday, a very flat performance v Cork. Personally as a Dub this game against Tyrone being in Croke Park doesn't make me any less or more confident. Ironically Tyrone's best performance was away to Donegal and their worst was at home to Mayo! Incidentally why do you reckon it's OK for the Dubs to play a semi in Croker but not a quarter? sligo joe (Dublin) - Posts: 956 - 23/06/2025 17:29:23 2620443 Link 3 |
They dont have to get rid of you. Our boys will do that.

I figure the Finals and Semi Finals are probably too big for other venues but the Quarterfinals would probably be ok.

There was an advantage to them playing there when they were playing and winning so many games there, they had that confidence that they would win most games there. But numerous teams from Kerry and Kilkenny have had great records there also over the years. Whatever anyone says if you get to play there more often it's not neccessarily an advantage, unless you are winning most of those games there. And to do that you need a great team to start with, whatever county you are from. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 16381 - 23/06/2025 18:54:16 2620486 Link 1 |
It's funny that Croke Park was never mentioned as being an advantage prior to 2011. It was all fine and dandy for every other county to come to Dublin, spank us in HQ and all was rosy in the garden. Since we've had serious success since its suddenly the ground we are playing in that is a big advantage. As you say, you need the players first and foremost to have success. I've been in Croker plenty of massive game days when we've 100% been outnumbered spectator wise - every game v Mayo we played for example. The advantage Dublin have had over the years has been no midweek travel for guys returning home for training. Matchday routines and traveling to games are part and parcel of things and we showed no ill effects from our trips to Salthill and Newry this year.

Pre-2011 it was seen as a hindrance in fact, all those supporters getting on top of the mentally brittle Dubs. Whereas the morally and mentally superior sons of the land were too tough and took strength from the taking on the Dubs in Croker.

A serious Mandella effect going on in here. It was widely accepted before 2011 that Dublin were at an advantage in Croke Park.
