I was surprised to hear Meath were beaten. I know Wicklow had been going ok. Some change this weekend. Meath and Kildare have been swapping places between McDonagh and Ring in recent years. Kildare look set to stay in the McDonagh. Looks like Meath won't make the Ring final."
Wicklow to beat derry next weekend..
London will defo beat tyrone
London to beat wicklow in the final..
Optimistic??

The predictable Christy Ring Cup has become unpredictable! No idea what to expect next.

Derry destroyed Wicklow. Derry v London final. For the first time in many years Kildare or Meath are not relegated from the McDonagh and Meath or Kildare are not winning the Ring.
Mayo and Roscommon will contest the Rackard final.
Monaghan will play New York in the Meagher semi final with the winner playing Cavan in the final.

Would be great for Derry to win too. London won in 2012. Derry have lost four finals in 2015, 2021, 2023 and 2024.

"MOTION 20: The proposal is to change the Lory Meagher Cup to include New York to play in the competition. The second placed team in the round robin section would play a semi-final against New York in Ireland. If New York end up being promoted, no team would be relegated from the Nickey Rackard to replace them. Whatever upper tier New York end up in, then that would have an extra team in it with the same format applied. New York would play a semi-final against the second placed team. In any year that New York fails to reach a final, they would be involved in a relegation play-off against the bottom round robin team."
This motion that allowed New York into hurling. If New York are in the Rackard Cup next year and fail to make the final - they will take on the 6th team in a relegation playoff. The thing is - if New York lose the playoff, that keeps the 6th placed team in the Rackard and the Meagher winner is also to be promoted?

Roscommon won the Rackard and are promoted to the Ring Cup. Derry will remain at Ring level next year.

A sweet win against our neighbours and given little chance with 6/1 to win. The match winning score came from player that is off to Australia in the coming a fitting send off.

Erm, I don't think there was a Joe McDonagh in 2014?

Roscommon used to have a respectable hurling tradition - certainly in the south of the county around Athleague and Four Roads. I remember then beating Wexford in the 1984 Centenary Cup, and competing (to an extent) against Galway in 'Connacht Finals' in the '90s. How come they fell off the map so much that a win against Mayo is seen as a big step? Have they any prospect of staying up in Christy Ring?

Hurling still limited to a few areas in Mid and South Ros, 7 clubs in all.
Mayo have come on in leaps and bounds last 10 or more tears.
They bet us in NHL and Group game so beating them in the Final meant an awful lot.
Means nothing to anyone North of 4milehouse though.
Probably no hope in Ring .

London took part in the preliminary group stage of the Leinster Championship in 2014, after winning the Christy Ring in 2013. A clubmate of mine was playing with them at the time.

Other teams in that 2014 group were Antrim, Laois, Carlow and Westmeath. It was a sort of a forerunner of the McDonagh Cup in that it was roughly the same teams involved. Difference was that the top two just went into the quarter-finals of the Leinster Championship, instead of preliminary quarter-finals at All-Ireland stage, like the top two in the McDonagh Cup do today.

Anyway, London finished bottom of that group, and were relegated back to the Christy Ring, where they remained until this year. They've never actually taken part in the Joe McDonagh Cup itself.

Ya ,can never seen to wonder how roscommon have went back so much from the 90s ,they should have very strong clubs ,but have got bet in the connacht intermediate semi finals for alot years ,mayo hurling isnt that strong ya have 2 very strong senior teams and the rest are miles off them ,but mayo have introduced a lot more senior teams n fairness this last few years

Difficult to say with London since obviously they're a different kettle of fish to other teams as regards how their playing pool might change, but history shows that more often than not, winners of the Christy Ring have been immediately relegated again the following year:

Meath won Christy Ring 2019 - were relegated from Joe McDonagh in 2020
Kildare won Christy Ring 2020 - were relegated from Joe McDonagh in 2021
Offaly won Christy Ring 2021*
Kildare won Christy Ring 2022 - were relegated from Joe McDonagh in 2023
Meath won Christy Ring 2023 - were relegated from Joe McDonagh in 2024
Kildare won Christy Ring 2024*

* Just two exceptions to the rule there. Overall, suggests that the step up from Christy Ring to Joe McDonagh is every bit as significant as the step up from Joe McDonagh to Liam McCarthy.
