Anything can happen on Sunday, but I'm also anticipating a tough game. Limerick beat Clare last year easily enough in first Munster championship game, after Clare won the league. Championship hurling is another ball game.

No way will Cork be raging hot favorites. This is a 50/50 game, and I expect all the talk of Cork lately to only stoke the fires even more in the banner county. I expect this to go right down to the wire, with a 1 or 2 point win either way. Eoin Downey will have work cut out with Duggan in on top of him..

The beauty of the Munster Championship is that anyone is capable of beating anyone on a given day. Remember 2 years ago Cork lost two matches by a total of 3 points (2 points in one match and 1 point in another) and were out. Possibly the same day Limerick could have gotten knocked out if Cork got a draw against them but Waterford beat Tipperary and Limerick ended up in the Munster Final mad stuff. Every single score in every match could be important. A bounce of a ball could change everything. Cork going to Ennis on Sunday is an Interesting match. I feel Cork are now a different beast compared to other years. They move the ball so quickly and deliberately its hard to stop. Clare backs will try and bring Cork forwards into a dog fight but I think this Cork team has the class in midfield and half backs to keep the score board ticking over even if the forwards are in a dogfight. I don't think Cork will be scoring 6 goals this time around. Tony Kelly doing Tony Kelly magic things gives Clare a fighting chance, however I think Cork will wear them down eventually and get the win. Tipperary and Limerick in Thurles is another interesting match. There is no reliable form to go on. Tipperary are not a bad as they were in the league final, and won't fear Limerick in Thurles one bit. I'm hoping now that the Shadow boxing is over that we get to see where Limerick are actually at. I hoping they will have enough answers to the Tipperary challenge but know Liam Cahill and Mikey Bevans will have a plan. Looking forward to Team announcements on Friday LimerickandProud (Limerick) - Posts: 125 - 15/04/2025 15:29:16 2602075 Link 0 |
Two interesting games at the weekend, no doubt. I agree Cork are "a different beast" this year. Most of the attention is focused on their attack, but for me the most significant difference is in their defence. They seem to have added a sharp edge to their game, and can also be cynical when the opposition is threatening a goal. I'm not saying they are worse than other teams in this regard, but other defences, especially Clare's, seem to attract a lot more attention and criticism. But if we are to believe Eamonn Sweeney on the Sunday Independent, we should embrace an overdue Cork All-Ireland win. He goes on to say that "we need Cork to win this year's Liam McCarthy, hurling needs it, the GAA needs it, and Irish sport as a whole needs it". I believe he's from Sligo originally, but I wonder where he lives now! I am surely not alone among hurling followers in my preference to see counties like Waterford, Wexford, Dublin or Offaly win the All-Ireland. None of these teams may enjoy the support that Cork have at present, but imagine what an All-Ireland success would do for hurling in any of those counties.

Even qualifying for an all Ireland semi final would be a massive tonic for us. It's difficult to describe how much hunger and raw passion is in Wexford

I'd agree with you midlands..don't see why cork need to win this year..if my own county don't get it I'd settle with any county outside of the big 3 winning it..looking forward to good hurling over the weekend to get championship up and running. O the hype has started. I admire Cork hurling but to say hurling needs a Cork All-Ireland win before the counties you mentioned and some others is b.s. Imagine if Kilkenny or Tip are in the final against them we will have to listen to "you have to have two traditional team to have a real All Ireland. " With several variations of the same nonsense. Should everyone else fold tent? Thankfully Limerick and Clare broke the mould. The last thing we want is domination of the game by anyone again for nearly a century. Comparing ourselves and Cork is not realistic. There are 48 clubs in Waterford. 12 senior clubs. There are 259 in Cork. No one's fault as the way the game is structured county by county but reality though.
