Doesn't that statistic just represent the lack of opportunity to play hurling depending where you are from? Every child in every so called hurling county has the opportunity to play football. The same can't be said the other way around.

The 2011 thing was taken completely out of context mostly by people jealous of what he achieved, he took a team ranked 19th in Ireland and won 2 Ulsters and an All Ireland in his first 2 seasons,
lesser managers copied and mostly failed with his approach with club and county, that's what really dragged football down.
anyway Tyrone and others were playing blanket defence long before we did.
I have tried to enjoy hurling but it just isn't enjoyable for me to watch,
different strokes for different folks I suppose."
The first time football fans saw the blanket defence was the Dublin v Donegal semi- final in 2011 when Mc Guinness deployed 14 players behind the ball and as a result destroyed football for a good 10-15 years. I accept that Tyrone and most other teams copied the template but Tyrone were not playing blanket defence before 2011.

As Viking points out, that's a very simplistic argument all right.

By your rationale, brushing your teeth is more enjoyable than having a good dinner. People generally brush their teeth at least twice a day, but might only have a good dinner a few times a week.

What year was Pat Spillane's famous 'puke' football comment made?

I see McStay whinging about the amount frees David Clifford got yesterday, I think McStay is due a trip to specsavers, the Mayo defence were fouling Clifford constantly ,they couldn't handle him any other way.

Pat Spillane's " puke football" comments relate to the 2003 semi final when Tyrone hunted in packs to disrupt of ball into the Kerry forwards. Most of this was done by in the Kerry half of the field and whilst not easy on the eye had no resemblance to the blanket defence employed by Mc Guinness.
Armagh were using a sweeper from 2002 onwards and again had no resemblance to the blanket defence system where you had 28 - 29 players inside the 50 yard line.

Mayo should have home advantage for NFL final, they won the league table.
The rugby should be in Croke Park, it would suit the place. GAA is the Give Away Advantages joke

McGuinness is some man, able to control 28-29 players, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

If you top the league you should win the league, simple as that.

McGuinness didn't destroy football for 10-15 years. No one was forcing any county to copy his template.

Pointless debating with a someone that compares 2 different sports to washing teeth and eating dinner.

I was being deliberately ludicrous just to show how ludicrous your simplistic comparison was in the first place.

If you prefer a sporting one -

Soccer has more registered players here than the GAA does. And when you consider that some GAA players are hurling only, the difference between number of registered soccer players and number of registered gaelic football players becomes even greater.

Does it therefore follow that soccer is more enjoyable than gaelic football?
