Did the pandemic happen in every county except Cavan & Tipperary? Although the circumstances were different to other years the Provincial titles were there to be won - Cavan, Tipperary, Dublin & Mayo went out and won them. Nobody else did. opa01 (Cavan) - Posts: 514 - 03/04/2025 11:28:03 2600304 Link 0 |
Cavan won Ulster in a pandemic. Monaghan are still waiting to win a serious competition- based on the typical Monaghan assessment that Ulster's don't matter any more; perhaps because they aren't able to win one - in any decade. Maybe you can blame the German measles, the tb epidemic of the 1910s or the impact of the Oil Crisis of the 70s!!

2 in 30 years actually, 28 years if we're being pedantic. Same as yourselves. I'd argue your 2 titles is very little to show for your time in Division 1 for a decade

Thoughts on Sunday ? Rewatched last year's game in Breffni last night What a brilliant game of football Id forgotten how good it was End to end in the second half and a very decent crowd along the terrace and behind the goal. Hopefully more of the same on Sunday 97Cavans (Cavan) - Posts: 405 - 08/04/2025 13:16:44 2601093 Link 0 |
2 titles when Cavan were far from vintage while Monaghan's greatest ever crop could only manage 2 says it all really.

Does McShane's foul on O'Rourke look any less a foul on second viewing?

One has to admire your optimism but it's hard to see our defence being able to cope with the Tyrone attack… Hopefully there is a 100% improvement on our last performance v Cork or this could get very messy….

Little doubt that Cavan squad will be looking forward to Omagh. Following the very close game last year, and so for the team it is a great chance to stand tall. From the moment the game was named, it would certainly would have been a target for Ray's team. Tyrone are favourites, with a lot of success at under age, and Errigal Ciarán, along with some big household names. Tyrone were good at stages in the league, but definitely loose, conceded a lot and a mixed bag. Did looked to be flying versus Dubs mind. Certainly have great players upfront, but Cavan have to get the match ups correct. Espiceally in full back line and midfield. The performaces have been mixed, great after a bad start, but low against Cork. Made All Ireland series. Any frees conceded will leave anything available for Morgan, so must watch physical fouls. Cavan have had many a bad beating to Tyrone over the years, but its Ulster, its always a tough game, and the players will be excited. The Sun is shining, the mood is good. Hoping some injuries can make it back as subs, as the new game is a squad game more than ever. The challenge is there! Cavan67 (Cavan) - Posts: 20 - 08/04/2025 19:01:08 2601154 Link 0 |
It's giving rain for the weekend probably suit cavan more than Tyrone

Yeah it was a foul and he had given a fair few soft ones before that A Monaghan man reffing this weekend and from the Cavan Monaghan border no less, however that is allowed to happen 97Cavans (Cavan) - Posts: 405 - 09/04/2025 12:56:34 2601221 Link 0 |
Tyrone have lost alot of players from 2021, they have just been relegated and were knocked out of the championship by Roscommon in Omagh last year As embarrassing as it is for Monaghan to be celebrating league football, they have a point about us. If it was Monaghan we were playing in Omagh on Sunday we would expect to win and yet because it is Tyrone we are fearful of a hammering Why show so much respect for Tyrone? 97Cavans (Cavan) - Posts: 405 - 09/04/2025 13:01:20 2601222 Link 0 |
Can the GAA do anything right when it comes to referee appointments… Would it not make more sense for referee's from another province to do matches…? Common sense and the GAA are words that seemingly go together…!!!!

Wouldn't mind the nonsense from FB&W - he's actually one of your own having a good windup going. Doesn't take much to get the teeth showing and he knows it! Eddie the Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 1175 - 09/04/2025 19:16:27 2601280 Link 0 |
what a ridiculous comment. Whatever standards and level of bias you have you shouldn't assume that a senior intercounty referee will stoop to those standards. All of the intercounty referees that i know (i know about 5 personally) are only interested in doing the best job they can. for them its not about petty rivalries or anything like that. they want the best outcome and a fair result. Don't judge everyone by your own standards please.

Yeah I like him as a referee and there are certainly worse referees but it still shouldn't happen in my opinion Off the top of my head we have drawn with them in championship in 2005, 2016 and last year. I can't remember many championship meetings. But our league record is against them is probably worse 97Cavans (Cavan) - Posts: 405 - 10/04/2025 15:22:55 2601399 Link 0 |
You are missing the point which is not surprising… I am saying that referees should be given the best help possible in games and by having 4 refs acting as umpires would surely lighten their load … 7 officials should have no problem picking up all incidents in a match unless they were totally incompetent…! The current umpire selection for inter county games is nothing short of farcical….

And what would be so wrong about having referees from outside the province doing provincial matches… ?

Ulster Council run the competition and make the appointments, so they will naturally prefer using their own refs. You could bring your suggestion to the Ulster Council via your county delegates. Eddie the Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 1175 - 11/04/2025 06:56:04 2601468 Link 0 |
Just saw the team selected and happy that there is continuity with the league. This should help with the spirit on the day. Bit worried about one of our corner backs. When you're coming up against one of the fastest and promising youngsters around at the moment, would you be relying on experience over similar speed and youthfulness? ondforty (Cavan) - Posts: 462 - 11/04/2025 12:50:07 2601501 Link 0 |
