Replying To cavanman47:  "He was asked by the county board to commit to another year.

He said he didn't want to, citing discontent expressed by some club delegates. It had zero to do with league performance.

Armagh's subsequent achievements showed it to be a very short-sighted position for those clubs to take!"
Only one member of the CB wanted him to stay… the other's wanted rid… He said he was staying but was quietly told if he took this approach that there would be a vote of no confidence by the clubs so he resigned…. I was told this by one of the Board members…. Comparing what Armagh did in subsequent years is just silly and has absolutely no bearing on where we were then or are now….!

"Only one wanted him to stay"

Yes, as I said, he was asked by the county board to stay on.

"He was told there would be a vote of no confidence by the clubs"

No, he was told SOME clubs were opposed to him staying on. He said that if some clubs weren't happy, he'd step down.

Anyway, he's the most successful manager we've had this century and your dislike of him seems to stem from something non football related. Your posts over the years have repeatedly shown this.

You're acting like you're close to actually doing something in the championship and are making some excuses for all your losses over the last few years. Cavan are god awful and are nowhere near being any good any time soon. It's hilarious how you go into the Monaghan thread and abuse them yet they're miles better than ye. Let's face it, you're on the same level as Antrim and fermanagh when it comes to ulster teams.

Delusion is the big problem in Cavan we kid ourselves because we are always competitive against Monaghan and have in general got the upper hand on them in the championship over past 5 years or so but Monaghan are Cavans viagra and we can always get it up for them but look at our performance over the years against the other teams that have regularly been in division 1. We get hammered against Tyrone Dublin and Kerry everytime we meet and beaten as soon as the draw is made much the same against Donegal and Mayo infact we are normally in no shape or form competitive against any of the top teams and have not been for at least the last 30 years.

Sure. Why let facts get in the way of your argument, eh?

We have played Monaghan 3 times this decade in championship football.

We have won all 3.

We have won an Ulster this decade. Monaghan haven't.

There is zero evidence in championship football this decade to suggest that Monaghan are better than Cavan. There is plenty to suggest the opposite.

As for Donegal (who i like and think will win Sam). . . If we're so awful, then how did we beat Mayo by more than ye did?

Yeah, I've now got 3 posters arguing with me without any of the 3 pointing out something I've said that is actually incorrect.

It's as tho I should be taken out and shot for daring to frame something in a positive way!

I have absolutely no dislike for the man… I just don't think he did a good job with us… Won a covid type strange Ulster Championship but dragged us down to our lowest ever level… He has since ran out on Leitrim and going by last weekend he hasn't contributed a whole lot to the Galway cause… I don't know what Galway thought he would bring to their set up but It obviously wasn't a whole lot….

Monaghan regularly get to the last 8 of the competition. You don't. Covid ulster was handed to you by Patton. We battered you the year previous too. You base everything off once off games. So what if you beat Mayo by more than us? It was a do or die game for them when we played them. We lost to Tyrone who then lost to Mayo so cherry picking random games throughout the recent history won't work here.

At the end of the day you're nowhere near challenging for all irelands and likely never will be.
You're one of the worse sides in ulster and will be in the tailteann in all honesty fairly soon.

Monaghan's 2 ulsters since 2013 and regularly being in quarters or semis is more impressive than a Covid ulster and never getting to quarter finals.

Haha very clearly still sore about 2020. Coming onto this board to post this kinda bitterness and nastiness is pathetic and you should be ashamed of yourself. That kinda attitude can consume you. Try to move on

Don't be talking sense on here!!!! They don't like it. The Cavan hurlers have played in Croke Park more than the footballer`s recently...

What are you talking about? Monaghan haven't won Ulster since 2015. That's 10 years ago!! As for regularly making semi finals. Monaghan are like hell regularly in semis. Most Cavan people like and support Donegal in the All Ireland series. As for the other crowd, don't lump them in with yourselves and the other contenders. They're no more contenders than we are.

Ah go away. You boys are in Monaghan's forum talking cac madra.
You're the pathetic ones living in the past.

Of course we're bitter about 2020. We lost to one of the worst teams of all time and would have had a handy all Ireland win that year. Oh well.

One semi final in almost 30 years too mind you.

So it was a 'Covid Ulster' but you dont want to call it a Covid league?
The league was more impacted by Covid than the championship.

I think he did a great job with Cavan. First Ulster final in 18 years and first Ulster win in 23 years. Left us in Division 2 so hardly a huge fall from grace especially considering he didn't put much value in the league.
Incredible record with Mullineachta too. And seems he saw the issues behind the scenes in Leitrim which have reared their head this year in a pretty embarrassing way.
If Joyce leaves Galway, he'll be one of the favourites for the job.

You've proven my point.

You'd rank Monaghan's reaching the quarter finals this year as more impressive than Cavan not reaching it. Fair enough, to the uneducated untrained eye that conclusion could be reached.

But the reality is that Monaghan faced one decent side (your own county) in the championship and lost to them twice.
Monaghan didn't beat any decent teams in reaching the quarters while Cavan beat Mayo to reach the last 12.
They got to a latter stage than us by pure luck of the draw and you're reaching your conclusion on that basis.

The Patton line was funny tho. Thanks for that.

I'd have to go through the record books but I believe that in the last 5 years, our footballers have played in Croke Park 5 times. . . .the exact same number as Monaghan in the same time frame!
