Yeah, I don't really think it's that much weaker (if at all) than last year's team in theory, you're pretty much losing just MOH and Liam Óg and as much as the latter was a great hurler for us, he was in truth replaceable last year The problem is that practice doesn't always follow theory Yes, S&C is a big issue, yes, we make too many mistakes in possession (Think this is fixable), yes, our puck-outs are terrible (Again, think this is fixable) but for me our biggest issue is (And has always been psychological) Yes, we are missing loads of players but so are other teams. And more importantly, we were missing loads last year in the league and yet we hurled much better last year than what we've shown so far this year. We didn't have any of Rory, Mac, Jippo, Liam Óg, or Dee against Clare last year at Wexford Park and we had lost Kevin Foley and Lee to injury in the first half and yet we still fought out way to a draw There was zero fight or dog in the team during the first half last night, that's the most disappointing part, fix that and the performances will improve (As we saw towards the end of the second half which was by no means a great performance but was at least somewhat encouraging) ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 398 - 09/02/2025 14:42:11 2590247 Link 1 |

Agreed, the defending for the 2 goals was chronic, Reck Lawlor and Dunbar are all but jogging back for their 2nd goal to close Ryan and Keoghan down. TBH it was straight up embarrassing and worrying to look at considering those 3 are going to be starting in the championship. You almost knew as soon as they went 4-5 points to nil up that it was lost cause. I understand we're missing our key players but would agree there was zero fight in that team last night in the first half and I'd probably put it up there with the second half in Corrigan Park last year in terms of how dysfunctional we looked, first touch, game plan etc. When someone steps out over the white line league or championship, with that jersey on in particular against our biggest rival you'd hope they'd fight like dogs for it, that wasn't there last night. Every year 6 or 7 of the U16s are on the Minor panel so this bunch of lads are not bucking any trends. Whether that is right or wrong is another debate.

Looks like we are going down lads. The massive amount of injuries, the retirements, the introduction of so many young raw inexperienced players has us where we are right now. Magpie2 (Wexford) - Posts: 404 - 10/02/2025 09:16:55 2590347 Link 0 |

Yes that would be correct in relation to 6/7 are with the minors every year, but what I actually ment was that 6 of that u16 group were missing from training with the 16s , Good group of chaps won a arrabawn shield last year, Wexfordabu25 (Wexford) - Posts: 4 - 10/02/2025 11:12:49 2590378 Link 0 |
Is there anywhere to find a list of the panel of players on the development squads? I think I seen these listed in the paper before

Kilkenny had only 9 starters from all ireland semi final last year eoin murphy Tommy walsh Richie Reid and the whole half forward line of John Donnelly Tj Reid and Adrian Mullen missing last Saturday evening but not one word from them about missing players we go on too much about who we are missing and should just support who we have and try to develop them there the future.

Wexford hurlers have the best of everything,s&c coaching, dietician, sports psychologist and medical everything!!! I find it baffling that our underage development squads train once a week from 13 till minor?? And further more there's 50 or even more on the panels up along, with probably half that actually not good enough to be there!! A child minding service for an hour and a half for a lot of them!!! Get the best 30 and train the couple of times a week like the other county's do!!! Training is lost on these groups when the Majority are just there for the day out,it takes away from getting good work into the good lads!!! Our schools arnt good but its the problem of the clubs not giving enough good coaching to the chaps, what secondary schools are been presented with is scary to be honest!!! I think we will get back when clubs get there act together and stop blaming county boards!!! Get out and avail of the courses that they provide and get the right people involved in your clubs teams at underage and we might see a change sometime!!!

I didn't know they only train once a week. That's nuts. We have under 10s training 3 times a week. Then again if they've school teams, clubs, probably dual at that age as well. You can't exactly take them off the clubs. The selection process is an issue too. It's not done by scouts. Clubs send their own nominees to trials. It's a while since I've been directly involved in that but that's how it was done in my time. So for example you might be limited to 4 from the Martin's, 4 from oulart etc. But equally have 4 from clonard and kilmore at the trials when in a given year the best 15 could all be from 2/3 clubs. Kind of dilutes the whole thing. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3423 - 10/02/2025 13:06:37 2590416 Link 0 |
Heard the same regarding the results and O'Brien missing. So hopefully a good crop for minor for the year ahead. They usually dont list those out do they?

They got listed on a release on the Wexford GAA website last year, but not so far this year.

Yes but effectively that means they finished 5th. And they only lost to one of the top 4, and that by only a point or 2 wasn't it?

In fairness Tommy Walsh and Richie,Reid are very unlikely to start a championship game because they're not as good as the lads who played last Saturday instead of them. I'm not sure TJ is viewed as a starter up there any more, and Mullen might not play at all this year.
