GAA top brass will hold an online meeting with county board officials from the 26 counties later today to discuss the Revenue Commissioners' risk review.

This is really going to set the cat among the pigeons....
Opening up a real can of worms....

Replying To SHCEIGHTY:  "Maybe Gilroy could see what is coming down the tracks.

Charging for U16s when attendances are falling shows how out of touch Croke Park are with the reality of what hard-pressed supporters are facing.

Every county board and club executive will also be very worried about a potential Revenue audit. It could become a real "sliding doors" moment for the GAA. Either embrace semi-professionalism or stick rigidly to the amateur ethos.

Either way, the result will be much smaller squads and management teams, and inevitably much smaller crowds if the GAA continue to hammer hard-pressed supporters."

HQ needs to get this sorted and advise accordingly.

This has wide ranging tax implications for the GAA - clubs and counties.

With 4 posts to your credit you are new to this forum so welcome on board,

As a successful businessman Gilroy knows a lot about finance and revenue so you are probably correct.

The gaa is the second wealthiest amateur organization in the world, the potential problem is (a) it's not totally transparent, (b) it's a HI Brid organization as in, Croke Park is professional and the rest of the gaa is amateur.

The outlay of finances to run the top 12 counties is staggering and remaining counties are suffering the consequences.

Our current gaa President suggested that a contract should be drawn up to support the county
managers including financial expenses / payments.

The following week Banty (Seamus McEnaney) suggested that all managers club included should be paid 1000 Euro a week.
A lot of increased charges will have to be introduced to help finance all that.

Don't let my post influence you, it's just my opinion.

Must be the only organisation where the product they're selling/offering gets increasingly more professional it gets worse in quality, in football anyway, hurling folk can beg to differ.

When you start charging kids admission under the smokescreen of crowd control etc...for a league game! Then you know the organisation is removing itself further and further from its core values.

Coupled with the robust defending of putting games behind tv paywalls in this country, running off its marquee competitions before summer has even begun, it is clear the organisation is going in the wrong direction imo.

If this is the way things are going then why can't counties agree their own kit deals with Adidas etc. There's zero issues doing deals with foreign media companies, why are kits sacrosanct under a virtual monopoly
