Dynamic Ticket Pricing

(Oldest Posts First)

I have been a Season Ticket holder since it's inception. In the first number of years they were great value, but in recent years all advantages have been eroded, to the extent that there is now very little saving to be made, and very little reward for your loyalty.

I wonder if the GAA has reaped any extra benefit from the pricing for the Oasis gigs. Do the Gaa get a fixed fee for Croke Park, or do the get a percentage of the actual gate receipts?

Which has led me to think about the future approach of the GAA towards their ticketing service with Ticketmaster. Together, will they now look at a strategy to maximise their takings for big games using Dynamic Ticket Pricing.

Fixed price for rent of stadium. Will not be dynamic pricing for games, no.

The gaa will eventually run the championship from Feb to April so they can have all summer for concerts

Hardly fair to compare an Association which despite lots of criticism ploughs nearly 90% of revenue back into the Association versus an organisation that has zero morals and is carrying on ticket touting officially

Can't see it happening in the GAA. Then again we do live in a country where the sitting government saw fit to build a €350k bike shed in the middle of a housing crisis with a general election looming so who knows.

The only way you get rid of dynamic pricing is to boycott these concerts. But that will never happen either and ticketb@$tard know that.

That should happen in an ideal world, but people will still attend these events, despite their being fleeced by promoters. The artists and the promoters get their cut always.

I would very much doubt that this will happen.

Why would that bother anyone from Leitrim?

The Association have to be careful in the future deals that they sign with Ticketmaster. They seem to have incredible power. The Season Ticket package decreased significantly when they moved from Tickets.ie to Ticketmaster.

It's similar to the contracts they sign with the Bars and Catering Facilities in Croke Park. The last time those contracts were awarded to a new company, the price of food and drink in the stadium increased straight away by about 20%.

I just feel that the Association will have to be aware of all the small print when dealing with Ticketmaster in the future. You could perhaps see a situation where the middle sections of the Cusack and Hogan would be marketed in such a way as to price the ordinary supporter out of those seats.

It's not Ticketmaster who decide the pricing method, it's the event organiser. For the Oasis concert the organiser informed Ticketmaster that they wanted the tickets to be sold in this manner. Ticketmaster then applied it in their system.
The GAA would have to ask Ticketmaster to sell tickets in this way for this to be done, which they absolutely won't. The backlash would be enormous.
The money-hungry clubs of the Premier League don't even apply this method. They'd be eaten alive by supporters and media if they did.
We have enough to be cribbing about in the GAA without inventing problems which will never happen.

Yeah I see Valencia have proposed applying the dynamic pricing method for their match tickets and there has been an outraged backlash.

Imagine if the GAA tried it for the All Ireland finals!?!? Dia sábháil the universe would implode.

Don't think we have to worry about in the GAA. Apart from the AI final, and the very odd semi final, there are never sell outs, so dynamic pricing wouldn't really work because the demand isn't there.

Their opinion is as valid as anyone's from any county.

Dynamic Pricing doesn't have to be just for Croke Park. It could apply to a Munster Hurling Final in Thurles, a Connacht Football Final in The Hyde, or a Louth V Dublin Group match in Navan or Inniskeen.

It won't apply to any of them, unless the GAA decide to make it so, which they definitely won't. It would be the stupidest decision ever made. A mountain of bad publicity and disillusionment for the sake of a few quid.
As I said, even Premier League soccer teams don't do it, and they would be as cynical as it gets when it comes to fleecing supporters.

The other joke with Ticket master this season was the way they released tickets for quarter final and semi final. They look to sell off the corners and far sections before anything in prime position in cusack and Hogan come on sale.

I get rewarding season ticket holders and club members but it's very dispiriting to early birds to end up with worse seats that Johnny come lately. Those reserved seats should launch on presale then once over, rest of stadium comes online.

They always sell out the lower tiers before opening the upper decks. It sometimes requires a wee bit of patience to hold on.

However, I don't believe that just because you are in the virtual queue early that you should get tickets for the middle of the Hogan or Cusack Stands. There has to be reward for Season Ticket holders and those who attend matches all the time.
