Limerick and Tipp 71 and 73.Epic games although Cork Limerick 18, in Croke Park comes near. Also many rip roaring Kilkenny v Wexford games in the Seventies and Cork /Tipp drawn game in 91.

It's telling that not one football game in the last 10 years or more is ever mentioned yet the deluded think football is in a great place..,,, No game has ever surpassed this year's All Ireland hurling Final…!

Hurling win over KK in '99 in the lashing rain.
Football semifinal win over Dublin 2010
Tyrone (mother's county) winning Sam for the first time in '03 and Peter Canavan's speech.

Some of the Mayo v Dublin epic clashes would make any list but I think for many they all seem to blend into one. The 2017 final was of the highest quality.

Replying To Lockjaw:  "Donegal v Dublin AI Semi-Final 2014.

There was a school of thought that Jim McGuinness's Donegal had done well to win their AI in 2012 and that swash-buckling Dublin would put manners on us. It certainly looked that way for most of the first half. But we steadied ourselves and found ourselves ahead at halftime. Dublin continued their all out attack strategy second half and Donegal ruthlessly punished them at will on the counter attack.

Unfortunately we couldn't go on to seal the deal against Kerry in the final. But as a standalone game, it's probably up there as one of Donegal's greatest ever performances and had an atmosphere to match."
I'd like to add the Kildare game in 2011 to that. While it didn't cause the seismic shock nationally of the Dublin game in 2014 it certainly was a transformational game in Jimmy's first tenure. You could just see the players being that more confident on the aftermath of what was a titanic tussle that went all the way to extra time.

Big Toyes goal was a peach and Cassidy's winner at the death. Say no more :) took me about a week to recover!

Donegal v Kerry in 2019 super 8s finished 1-20 - 1-20. A great game of football.

Obviously the two AI final wins very special in 02 and this year for us.

Other stand outs:

02 semi-final vs Dublin was a cracker
05 semi-final vs Tyrone was a great game which we lost
06 defeat to Kerry was a good game

In recent years:

We had a few great games against Kildare, Meath, Monaghan, Tipp, Mayo & Roscommon in the back door. The Mayo & Roscommon games were selected as games of the year by RTE in those years - we lost both.

Quarter-Final defeat against Galway a couple of years ago was class
Ulster Final defeat to Derry in same year
Ulster Final defeat this year against Donegal after pens
Kerry semi-final victory this year after extra time

All great games that stand out - plenty of pain in there but some joy too.

I though you were of the view that all games before the advent of "29 players inside 50 yard line" were rubbish to be mocked and ridiculed.

Would agree with your picks. When Richie scored that point I thought we had won the All_Ireland. Jumped up and landed on two Tipp supporters in front of me. Lucky to be alive. Drawn Leinster final between Wexford and Kilkenny and the replay matched the first game. Forget the years. It was where I heard the Wexford lads accusing the Kilkenny lads of peeing on the ammo in "98 rather than fight. Some banter but all in good spirit.

Dublin v Meath 1995
After what came before, beating Meath by 10pts that sunny day was something very special.

That game was absolutely unreal, but gets forgotten because of the demoralising defeat in Csstlebar the week after.

A superb game, deservedly won by Donegal.

The game that made the 6 in a row team!

In terms of sheer quality, I think the u21 Munster final in 2011 between Limerick and Cork was the best game of hurling I've ever been at.

It was a brilliant game, some of the scores were outrageous, Cork senior footballer Aidan Walshs equaliser to send it to extra time from way out was superb.
Lads like Hannon and Mulcahy shone that night, had a few bad years after but well rewarded in 2018 and onwards.

Where on earth did you get that idea from? I've always loved the game in all its forms as I've stated before - even the decapitate and hoof it in days of the 80's and 90's. It's just the idiots that can't work out what's happening now (and compare it to a game with 30 sticks/helmets and a wee tiny ball that you can score from 70 yards with) that struggle with the current offering that mock and ridicule. As for me, as always, I'll be in attendance at all of my club games next year and however many county games we are lucky enough to get. I love the game. Simples.

Wasn't at the game myself, but knew a few of the lads involved in the 2005 u21 final between Down and Galway.
It was the day Sean Armstrong and Michael Meehan went on a crazy scoring spree but Down to their credit never gave in. Finished 6-5 - 4-6 in Galway's favour. A ridiculously fun game of football.
