I thought it was an self indulgent speech by Burns. He was certainly giving it as an Armagh man, not as GAA president. Listing out all the volunteers who make the GAA tick every day and then saying "this is for YOU!" Why, were all the previous All-Irelands not for them? Why is this All-Ireland in particular for them? I thought the Armagh speech would never end. It was one step away from thanking Rex the dog who collected the ball from the gripe in 2012 Burns was naturally emotional, the speech was better than the hurling one anyway. But it is harder for people to dedicate themselves to GAA in clubs and counties where they haven't a hope of winning anything...ever. All nice talk from Jarlath, it's a great marketing phrase 'we all belong' ... but when it comes to GAA coaching grants etc some kids belong to the association more. Jarlath had a good shot at replicating Martin Luther King's 'I have a dream' speech from 1963. I can't see Jarlath bothering with Dáil Éireann but he'd fit nicely into the Áras…. Do Galway folks not wash Jerseys, line pitches, Cut the grass, make tea etc. He is president of the GAA not Armagh GAA. He should be hanging his head in shame. Galway supporters and the team (who probably did not care anyway what he said) deserved better from him. If Galway had won I would say the speech would have been a lot less muted. He has let himself down and ranks as low as John Horan who used to say "We" when he was on about Dublin. GAA Presidents needs to be neutral. He wasnt.
