Hurling 2024 Team Of The Year

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Lot of debate on the Sunday Game team of the year. I think Gillanne has to be in the team, arguably John Conlon too. Hard to see anyone in Kilkenny get on it with what is already there. Thoughts?

I think Lee Chin can feel aggrieved. Hogie only overlook him yesterday after two Extra games and a 90 minute final. Chin was hoty contender until the quarter final. Then again you can only pick 15 I suppose.

Following would be mine - Collins, Hogan, Downey, Leen, Conlon, Downey, McInerney, Fitzgerald, Mahony, Fitzgibbon, Rogers, Barratt, Gillane, O Donnell, Hayes. Want to get Harmondy in there somewhere - probably between him, Hayes and Mahony for two spots. TK brilliant yesterday but don't think one game should get him in.

Wouldn't have Eoin Downey, Mahony or Barrett on it myself. Probably have Malone and Fitzgibbon as the midfielders, and Fitzgerald, Rogers, and Duggan as half forwards. Huw Lawlor at fullback. Although Fitzgerald was poor enough for most of the game yesterday and only came good towards the end.
As regards MOTM only one choice, my favourite hurler to watch over the last 11 years, TK. Although Ryan, Conlon and Malone would've pushed him close.

Can't see TK getting All Star. Although MOTM yesterday he was sub for most of Munster Championship. Peter Casey was MOTM last year and did not get All Star.

He played well up til he went off early against Carlow. Was very good against Dublin and Galway. Went off early against Laois too. I suspect he was carrying an injury after the Carlow game tbh, but that's never been confirmed by anyone connected to the team. He was like 2 different players before and after that game.

Agreed, you have to perform outside of your province to make team of the year.

I thought Conor Foley was Wexfords best player this year btw, not Chin.

All frees!!! Anonymous in the big games!!! 1 point v Kilkenny,1 point v Clare,3 points v a terrible Galway!!! The other teams not worth talking about!!! If your going to be in the top tear of Ireland's hurlers U have to perform against the top teams in the biggest games!!! That's from play and I'm not getting at lee chin he's our leader but outside of Wexford he ain't feared or thought of as a top hurler!! He's regarded as a top athlete absolutely and a legend in Wexford great ambassador for our country!!! Tops as regards hurler not near it!!! And we would be lost without him!!!

Absolutely love Wexford and a massive fan of lee,he's a great ambassador no doubt about it!!! He's one of Wexford best hurlers!!! He deserves everything he gets and I'd love to see him get it all to be honest!!! All I'm saying is that outside of Wexford he's not thought of as a top class hurler,he's thought of as an absolute specimen!!! If U take off your Wexford hat and step outside the bubble he's not up in the top 10 best forwards around!!! He hasn't done it in the big games on a regular basis!!! Look is anyone really mentioning him now??? Not really it's only token stuff!!! Sorry but I feel that's where I'm at with him!!!! And I'd absolutely have Rory O'Connor inside and chin in half forward line every day as someone touched on there!!!!

I regret opening my mouth. I guarantee you Lee is considered a top player by everyone.

Are you not a towny? If you are who I think you are you're a lovely fella, very knowledgeable but in terms of negativity you'd give Joe Duffy a run for his money.

Fair play to all these Wexford posters commenting on this thread, when it's unlikely any player from the Model County would be on it. Team will be most likely what was picked on Sunday game..doesn't count for much, and neither do All Stars

Lee is a top top player and carried Wexford somewhat in Leinster but unfortunately the quarter final has done him out of a chance for an All Star. Cleary had him well marshalled in that game. He should have been brought out wing forward. The ball selection by Wexford that day suited our fullback line

Yet only one player in the country scored more from play in their years championship than Kelly. He.played less minutes than all the top forwards yet only a midfielder,Davy Fitzgerald, outscored him. What does that day about the rest of them then!

Not one forward scored more from play than Kelly this year. Why is Kelly always judged at a far high level than every other player in the game? Struggling with injury for most of the early part of the season yet still outscored or matched every other forward in the country for a finish.

No Shane Barrett? Are you having a laugh? I just can't take you seriously. I'm surprised you haven't named the whole Wexford team as Team of the Year. You remind me of Royaldunne over on the Meath forum.... deluded..

You are correct - Lee Chin is a class act and an unbelievable servant to Wexford hurling. We'd have him in Cork any day!
