So we certainly don't know if he was good value for money. Up or down he was a strange appointment for Derry to make in the 1st place . Not sure that's true. Both counties who got promoted from our division had outside managers. Derry won division 1 with an outside manager. So that's half the League winners this year had outside managers. I think it's better from a county's long term development point of view to have a local man though. Let me be very honest about this post, I am not bringing into question the success(s) of any inter county senior football manager who ply's his trade with another county, far from it, however - - - I have just read where Philly Ryan has been installed as the new Tipperary senior football, "My philosophy has always been that football is all about the players," he said in a county board statement. "Players will judge me on how much I care as well as how much I know. The team is the star so every individual player and management member will have to leave their ego at the door. I subscribe to the old saying - it's amazing what can be achieved when nobody cares who gets the credit."
