Mickey Harte - Where To Next.?

Replying To Thejampot:  "It's called shane lowry"
Shane Lowry is no fool. Michael Duignan confirmed on the same podcast that Shane gave Offaly a 6 figure sum of money. I very much doubt he's funding the appointment of Harte.

A league title then leaves. I wouldn't call that good value for money

We don't know why he left. And we don't know how much he got for expenses. So we certainly don't know if he was good value for money. Up or down he was a strange appointment for Derry to make in the 1st place . But he's unquestionably a good manager, and it will be interesting to see how he gets on with the Biffos.

Replying To Cockney_Cat:  "Harte has been appointed as 'joint-manager' of Offaly. It seems a bit odd, the 'joint' bit. Surely there has to be a 'number one' in team management. Who picks the team? Who decides when and who to substitute in important games?"
Mickey was replaced by joint managers in Tyrone

Best wishes to Mickey Harte. He done a brilliant job in Louth and Offaly have some top talent. He'll definitely improve them. Be interesting to see how he gets on without the Horse Devlin.

Overall and for the betterment of all counties there should be a clear understanding that all managers should come from within their own county, this rent a manager stuff has a limited and dated success rating.

I agree…. this is something I have been calling for for years… County boards are only fooling themselves with this nonsense…wasting huge amounts of money every year with virtually zero success as you say…!

Worry about Leitrim's business and no other county's. Last time I checked Leitrim are the only county that us Americans can beat in the championship!

And I would confidently say that NY or even one of the regional teams we have here in Chicago or Colorado would comfortably beat Leitrim on any given day of the week and twice on Sundays!

A fluke result that will never happen again Id say….

Think your missing the point. It's about micky. Not who leitrim can or can't beat.

Not sure that's true. Both counties who got promoted from our division had outside managers. Derry won division 1 with an outside manager. So that's half the League winners this year had outside managers.
I think it's better from a county's long term development point of view to have a local man though.

How right you were. He was always going to hold out for a big job like joint Offaly manager.

Replying To thelongridge:  "A strange choice, Mickey is out of touch with the modern football tactics at elite level. Offaly in Div 3might get a bounce, but just have to see. I would have allowed Declan Kelly continue as manager, but Offaly footballers think they are too good for Tailteann Cup and other secondary competitions, as per 2024 results. We barely survived in Div. 3 this year, there a few egos in the squad who need to be faced down.

As the Undertones sang once, ' A good Harte these days is hard to find'. Check in 2025."
"As the Undertones sang once, ' A good Harte these days is hard to find'."

The Undertones never sang that, or anything like it.

Where would the likes of Cavan and Leitrim get a manager then?

Let me be very honest about this post, I am not bringing into question the success(s) of any inter county senior football manager who ply's his trade with another county, far from it, however - - -

I have just read where Philly Ryan has been installed as the new Tipperary senior football,

"My philosophy has always been that football is all about the players," he said in a county board statement.

"Players will judge me on how much I care as well as how much I know. The team is the star so every individual player and management member will have to leave their ego at the door. I subscribe to the old saying - it's amazing what can be achieved when nobody cares who gets the credit."

The definition of my kind of manager is what Philly Ryan in his own words represents, he ticks all the boxes, I wish him well with maximum success.

Offaly are hardly a big county based on results in 2024.
