I always thought his commentaries on the Munster Hurling championship were on another level . Who will ever forget his line about Sean Og " his mother is from Fiji, his father from Fermanagh neither of them a hurling stronghold. May he rest in eternal peace. tireoghainabu (Tyrone) - Posts: 338 - 25/06/2024 14:23:54 2554765 Link 1 |

A true legend. The voice of the gaa radio. The greatest radio commentator ever.Always made average games exciting.Non biased. As he said himself before Armagh beat Kerry."When the ball is thrown in im neutral and im delighted for Armagh".We were all priviledge to hear his commentaries.Wit humour amd great sayings.I loved nothing better than coming ftom one match driving and listening to Micheàl commentating on another as I drove home.Pure magic and for those of us that were lucky to have heard him we realise a part of our gaa life has died today.Sincere commiserations to his family and may Micheàl rest in peace and I ve no doubt he will be up in heaven doing commentaries on games above involving Brian Mullins Paidi O Se John Egan Dermot Earley John Kerins Mick McCarthy Tim Kennelly Mick Holden Cormac McAnallen Paul Girr and many more. Fear uasal, grinn agus thar a bheith séimh a bhí ann. Scéalaí den scoth. Spreag sé agus chothaigh sé suim inár gcluichí agus ár gcultúr do dhaoine ar fud na tíre agus an domhain ar fad. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2187 - 25/06/2024 15:05:07 2554785 Link 3 |

Sad day what a man. Loved the Sundays coming back from matches with my father listening to him commentating , wudnt be a noise in the car just listening to his brilliant commentary and famous quotes. Met him once and what a gentleman , it was great to ask him about all the great players and by god he was generous with his time. Rest easy you'll be sorely missed.. rorysboys (Donegal) - Posts: 2563 - 25/06/2024 16:34:34 2554811 Link 0 |

Sad to hear of his passing. He was a brilliant commentator and had such a beautiful voice. All those days as a kid sitting in my fathers car listening to him commentating, you would look forward to listening to a match on the radio. May he rest in peace. RIP to the great man. I met him on a number of occasions at the Annual Asian Gaelic Games (AGGs), when I was living on that side of the world. I often heard non-native English speakers, such as Koreans, Vietnamese, or Chinese say that his was the easiest accent ever to understand, that they understood him 100% when he spoke. Michael is not just a legend in Ireland but all around the world. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2095 - 25/06/2024 17:12:30 2554825 Link 1 |
His commentary on the concluding stages of the 4th and final Meath v Dublin game in 1991 is absolutely epic. Check it out on you tube. Spine-tingling stuff. Malonemagic (Laois) - Posts: 803 - 25/06/2024 17:17:59 2554826 Link 0 |
