They did care. They let Hugo keenan go play 7s because its the Olympics and mad to stop player from trying to get a medal. New Zealand, France and many others have also had players go from 15s fo try win 7s medals. Dupont this year for France is a good example. Rte Rte have shown the urc before 2 or 3 years ago. They had it in early 2010s Won by a Scottish team doesn't mean its bad. Ignorant in the extreme to say that! KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3674 - 24/06/2024 10:49:25 2554314 Link 1 |
Time to 'invent' a third trophy perhaps, so they'd have an extended opportunity for 'success'. Some sort of 'league cup' perhaps, but utilising words like 'conference' or 'intercontinental' in the title name also.

Dupont was back playing for Toulouse Friday night in top 14 semi finals as they are a big deal. There is no engagement with it geographically it's an issue A lot of games played in near empty stadiums in wales and SA Leinster played a semi final at half strength last year. Andrew Porter himself has said along same lines it not of great importance to them but ormo knows better jm25 (Galway) - Posts: 1285 - 24/06/2024 11:29:36 2554348 Link 0 |
Dupont didn't leave mid season.he was there for toulouse 2 main competitions.keenan wasn't. So suggesting leinster take urc seriously is just not true. It's a nothing competition.

Leinster had a champions cup final following week so had no choice but to field a weakened team. Derry vs Mayo was on tv, Gaa go is a television station once you pay for it, lads spend €20-30 a week on coffees and chicken rolls but moan about spending €12 on two hours of quality entertainment. What do you do if you go to the cinema?

It is definitely better with the SA teams involved. I think they structured it better this year, knock out stages after the champions cup (at least after Irish interest ended). Last year made the comp look like a joke with Leinster resting half a team in the semi final. Munster, defending champions brought 14k to a home quarter final and then 20k to a home semi final, with rugby at an all time high in Ireland, definitely doesn't give the impression the competition has captured the imagination of the public. dahayeser (Cork) - Posts: 353 - 24/06/2024 13:07:41 2554394 Link 0 |
They put the two best games on GAAGo this Saturday. Looks like the want to get a crowd at the game because Armagh and Roscommon will bring fans Kew (Galway) - Posts: 100 - 24/06/2024 14:53:37 2554435 Link 0 |

Kerry Derry beats Armagh Ros on paper imo. Mayo established clear superiority over this Roscommon side in very recent weeks. Yet we have to look at Ros playing this game, when many would be of the opinion that Mayo would present a far stiffer test currently to Armagh, than this Ros side will be capable of. That's what Mayo v Ros × 2 showed up recently.

We know the structure, Riscommon know the structure. They were smarter because they won the games that mattered.Fair play to them and best of luck to them and yourselves.

Absolutely, but that doesn't alter the suspicion that Mayo are a better side than Roscommon, on all known & even recent form.

They're probably better than Louth too but do Louth care? or Ros either . No! Much too busy preparing fir the Quarter Finals!! Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1952 - 26/06/2024 20:43:09 2555041 Link 2 |
But that's exactly the point. Better sides get results when they're needed even if some stats rank them a bit lower and know that playing good football or very defensively doesn't guarantee results. Roscommon didn't peak until the right time. Some Mayo supporters will 'take comfort' thinking we're better than X,Y and Z now we're out. If Derry were to go on and lift Sam this year, unlikely, some would be saying sure last year's champs couldn't beat us and this year's champs didn't beat us, we're the second best team in Ireland. When that's not true at all. We're not close to winning an All Ireland on this years form. Roscommon aren't either but they're still there. Every team knows the system. Crying in hindsight won't improve us in the future. Treating draws or 1 point defeats as great results and one point wins as great results but not learning how to close the games like confident teams do. Lost 11 finals but not finding reasons why we can't close out big games first and, only then, trying to fix it. Almost looking content to be contenders, whatever contending means.

The last time a side couldn't lose and then win it out was back in the 90s.

They do that to maximise streaming revenue. It has nothing to do with maximising crowds.

A lot of people don't even know the game is on. It's been a strange championship people don't seem too interested. I can't understand how going behind a pay wall is going to grow the game. Quarter finals and a lot of people don't know it's on. The rugby crowd know pay walls don't help the profile of the game.

Rugby in champions cup is often behind a pay wall.
