Learn what? Cork haven't been a major factor in championship for the bones of 20 years. Welcome back Cork!!

Congrats to cork. Proud hurling county. Manly stuff out there. Ref was excellent. No garbage from either side. They needed that win and they never died. Limerick possibly took the eye off the target for a second. Could stand to them. The fear in Limerick was always getting sucker punched at the death and we down here would be hoping it came today and not when the silverware is being handed out. Every county now has the jeopardy factor at their door. All 5 in with a shout with 4 matches left. It's the crown jewel of the GAA in fairness. Limerick with the 2 week break and a home match will still fancy a munster final

Bit like Galway so apart from a couple of very short spells when ye had one match to win to get to final and unquestionably the way ye will be from now until 2030 at least, who will replace Daithi, the two Mannion, Conor Cooney, David Burke?

Last nights match in Cork was up there with most exciting hurling match I was ever at , great scores , mistakes , roller coaster stuff with an absolutely incredible athmosphere . Not sure did it come out in the telly but the scenes as thousands of cork fans streamed onto the field celebrating was the most heart warming scenes from a cork perspective in many years . Cork are going to bring some crowd to thurles for the Tipperary match .

Cork have to beat Tipperary and have a few other results go their way to emerge from Munster. We were rampant in first half, and Declan Hannon's lack of pace was exposed. Ryan pulled full back Eoin Downey after his early yellow card, as in previous games against Clare and Waterford, red cards followed. This Cork team will develop given the opportunity, a few of the Limerick goals resulted from errors in short pass puck outs, but at times Cork were cutting through Limerick defense like a knife through butter, and only excellent goalkeeping from Quaid kept Limerick in it. Next week against Tipperary in Thurles could be another epic game.

2013 all Ireland final was notable in that Clare got a last gasp point to tie the game, after Cork opted to send a sideline free over bar. Sideline from Moylan went wide, and Clare scored after resultant puck out. Yesterday, against Limerick, in the dying moments, Ryan instructed Horgan to hit free into corner to Hayes, winding down the clock and preventing ball going dead.Hayes scored anyway….. We're learning!!

what will that game take out of cork after last night they invested so much into it......if it was a level playing field and cork had 2 weeks to prepare for tipp id fancy cork. but a tipp team with a 2 week break at home in thurles i'd def give them a chance of overturning cork.

Limerick v Waterford could be a knock out game if Clare beat Waterford and cork beat Tipperary

Limerick have no choice but all guns blazing v Waterford in the last game. If they won yesterday they probably would have rested some players v Waterford

I'm aware of that. They'd have won it actually imo, if Gavin had blown his whistle on time, but instead he 'magiced up' another minute out of nowhere, and Clare nicked the equaliser.

Cork have still been fairly irrelevant (by Cork hurling standards) in the championship, since their 3 in a row came up short in 2006.

And what has any of that got to do with Cork, or the thread 'Munster Hurling Championship 2024'? Absolutely nothing.

Great post, Daveboy. Your comments are very fair and sporting, in contrast to those of a Waterford poster who is still going on about James Owens' mistakes in a game where his own county got at least a fair share of the referee's decisions. I have no doubt that Limerick will bounce back, and by the time the championship is over this defeat to Cork might prove to have been a blessing in disguise.

I saw an interview with Horgan after game, where he said he's looking forward to returning to training on Sunday or Monday. 36 years old but the hunger is there and Cork will be fired up again. Hopefully a win against Tipperary will be enough to get them through Munster.

There are 2 ways to look at it from a cork perspective. Yes what will it take out of them, but equally what confidence will it give them. They have a bit of momentum now but who knows? The way the championship is going it's impossible to call anything at this stage

They were a last second point away from winning in 2013. They were also a Nickie Quaid flick from playing us in the 2018 final. They were definitely a major factor in the championship those years.
What a game yesterday evening. I expected the Limerick comeback, as I'm sure plenty did, which is a mark of what a great team they are.
However, even when it came, I felt Cork could still win it as they were scoring so freely and creating so many chances throughout. It was different to the Clare game, where the chances completely dried up for Clare in the last 10 minutes. Cork were still causing problems.

No real jeopardy lad. All 5 of ye will be able to go again next year.

The Cork goalie kept Limerick in it with crazy short puck outs. If Cork take last nights form to Tipp then Tipp will be bate out the gate. Whether 4 points will be enough for Cork to get into top 3 is another matter but if they can get out of Munster their running game will make them serious contenders.

Was amazed how cork went short when all long ball caused havoc to limerick defence.I did mention last week that I was worried about this cork game..they have some very pacy boys who can hurl..fitzgibbon and rob Downey were excellent last night..it will be interesting to see if cork can recover physically from this, other counties in last few years have put so much into trying to get results against limerick havnt been able to go again the next day..I won't be surprised if tipp manage a result against cork..I think Clare will beat Waterford which would mean limerick/Waterford on last weekend would be playing for place in all Ireland series..really interesting 2 weekends ahead..great days for hurling..
