Replying To Kew:  "But you are missing the point. He should not be bringing politics into the GAA like this. What if he started saying right wing stuff? The GAA should not be used as a stepping stone to get into government."
Sean Kelly, Alan Dillon, John O'Mahony (RIP). Etc etc.

Replying To eslinchickenmaryland:  "Agreed, if he wants to go into politics then off with him.

Thank the teams and the officials and hand the cup over to the winning captain and don't make it about himself."
He will definitely end up in politics.

Dont be surprised if he ends up in the ARAS eventually.....

Because what he said is 100% right. If he stated saying right wing racist stuff that'd be wrong. I don't see any problem whatsoever with people standing up to racism.

"For those people who are our diaspora, who had left this country because of war and famine, and for ancestors who had to leave it, we are thinking of you as you watch it. You are in Croke Park today, if not in body than in spirit, and we thank the countries who took you in and allowed you to make a new name for yourselves with our native games."

All the county boards should send letters to the authorities in Westminster this morn on the basis of that speech thanking them on behalf of Ireland for taking some of our families into their welcoming arms and not in any way impeding the playing of our native games... especially boards in Ulster. Can't think of specific ones off the top of my head though.

Because if you thank the USA, Canada, Australia etc, you got to thank Britain also.

He needs to keep politics out of it."
Good old Jarlath….. He loves the limelight

The GAA is steeped in politics, from it's very foundation. You're welcome to ignore that if you want but to pretend otherwise is just ridiculous

It was an excellent speech, Burns is a great representation of all that is great about the GAA

Replying To Kew:  "It's All over twitter now about his speech. Philly McMahon praising him. I really wish we could just stick to sports and stay away from the politics."
Sport is supposed to be all inclusive. People should stop politicising his speech would be more the point. The speech was excellent, but he was wrong about something in it. Tony Kelly doesn't have a Munster Senior Hurling medal, unless he bought or was given one. Apart from that the speech was spot on.

(Joking before my Wexican neighbours take a hump, I love living amongst you)"

Exactly. In a week where there was numerous attacks by racist mobs in the city something akin to the early days of the brownshirts, it was a very important point to make.

Yes ever since he got some praise after his u20 hurling speech he seems to believe in every speech he needs to make a point about something. He should let the players have the limelight and stop trying to steal it for his own benefit

Ah go off and join up with your whinger friend Walter Mitty from Cavan. Jarlath's contribution was outstanding. A wonderful spokesman for our great Association. A true and true GAA man. I have also watched him make tea and clean up after a Scór Competition in his home area Silverbridge. Would be nice to see our enjoyable football season end with him presenting the Sam Maguire Cup to the Armagh captain next Sunday as his son looks on. However if it is the Galway captain who receives it,I can assure you it will be handed over with same class and congratulatory words that are the mark of Jarlath Burns.

A great man a a very classy speech yesterday rightky taking aim at those brain donors in this country who don't seem to know our own past of immagration. I'd say they were all too busy working yesterday to have seen the game though.

Ardfhear Jarlath.
