Just to set the ball rolling on this.

Lohan once more has blooded a lot of new players in the league. Of the new lads, probably closest to first team selection at the moment are Sean Rynne and Keith Smyth. I think Rynne will certainly challenge for a midfield place equally with Malone and Taylor. Smyth is also in a strong position, but competition for places in the Clare forwards is extremely high, with Fitzgerald, Kelly, Reidy, O'Donnell, Duggan, Rodgers, McCarthy, Galvin, and Meehan giving a wealth of options, and squeezing other promising players such as Mounsey and Crotty completely out at least for the moment. Elsewhere, I think we will see Daithi Lohan and Cian Galvin getting at least some game time from the bench in the championship. Starting-fifteen places from last year I wouldn't be surprised to see challenged would be Rory Hayes (too prone to costly mistakes) and Aiden McCarthy (I feel he just hasn't fired at intercounty level yet).

For sure the lads will once more leave their mark on the hurling year but sadly, talented and all a bunch we have, I think once more they will fall just short of eclipsing a truly outstanding Limerick outfit. Hope I'm wrong though.

You haven't even mentioned Leen who I think if he goes well tomorrow will start against Limerick in Ennis.

I've been very impressed with Leen and Cian Galvin in the league. Great to see Galvin playing so well, we need lads with his size and stature

I also think Leen has done well. I feel that corner back position is still up for grabs, and agree Conor may have his chance to nail it with a good performance today.

I take it the 6 backs are settled with Mcinerney coming back in at 7..has Lohan done enough to start midfield..David Fitz is a super hurler and is a huge addition to the forwards rather than at midfield..I expect Duggan, o donnell and rogers to start, who will make the other 2 places??is Kelly anywhere near getting back?looking forward to the trip to Ennis in 4 weeks.I'm expecting a cracker and I'm very nervous about it..think it could possibly go either way..

Kelly should be fine, we was warming up on the sideline 2 weeks ago.

Team I think will be picked is

Quilligan

Hogan Clearly Leen

Galvin Conlon Ryan

Malone McInerney

Duggan Kelly Fitz

Reidy Rogers McCarthy

From what I'm hearing TK is not guaranteed for Limerick. Taylor won't make it. David mcinerney is also a doubt. Shane o donnell is clearly a freak but no match all year is a worry. Today's match was such a poor watch. I think Tipp are in serious bother. Clare v kilkenny will be a nice test for both as I felt both were all out this weekend to get silverware on the board for their own reasons.

SOD has won 2 all stars both in years where he played no league. He will be fine

Lohan said after the match today that he hoping to have both Kelly and SOD for the league final.

Taylor says he won't be back until 3rd round of Munster championship but he was out doing sprint drills before the KK game 2 weeks ago so how true this is I don't know.

I don't know anything about McInerney

Its good to see Brain Lohan has added a bit of depth to his panel Leen & C Gavin especially are good additions not sure id D Lohan has enough hurling for midfield but he did well yesterday.
John Conlon such a clever hurler but has he the legs for 6 maybe D Mac there and John back to forwards.

P Duggan does an amount of hard graft but needs to contribute a lot more on scoreboard

TK should feature in League Final for a bit of game time at least dont think Ryan Taylor will feature this year though

We need to win the league IMO absolutely need silverware

Lohan has plenty of time on his side. Bar the rare few like Adam Hogan, due to the physicality and conditioning needed at this level we wont see the bet of a lot of lads until they are 23/24 at least. Thats why we have to have patience with these lads and with our minor All Ireland winners.

In fairness lads ye have really got things moving in the right direction both at senior and underage, I was worrying what the future held for ye when Cork beat ye 40 points in u17 in 2021 but to win that grade last year and give a brilliant Cork team plenty of it in the Munster u20 final indicates things are looking bright.

The 40 point defeat certainly had us concerned but to see the backbone of that minor team come so close to winning Munster against a Cork team who went on to win the All ireland shows the issues that we all suspected at that time. A total lack of professionalism, carefactor and prepardness from the county board towards the underage teams in that time. I must mention that was the old executive and i have nothing bad to say about the new county board in charge who go about their business well.

We have lots and lots of high quality young hurlers in Clare coming through as evidenced by last years winning minors only our second ever at that grade.

The core of the Clare team have been on the road together for a long time now. While Conlon, Kelly, McInerney, O'Donnell and Morey are the survivors from the 2013 AI Senior success , from the U21 team of that year we can add Flanagan, Duggan, Malone, and (sub gk) Quilligan. Reidy and Cleary are also around the 30 mark.

True looks to be a healthy blend of experience and new blood in your panel at the moment.

Good to get the under 20 campaign off to a win v Limerick. Thought our fullback line was under awful pressure and we gave up 2 stupid goals but the lads showed serious grit playing into the wind in second half and finished really strong.

Congrats to Clare on the win this evening, well deserved. Very hardy display from the lads, tough as nails and getting dirty ball for fun all over the pitch. Touch and stick work was that bit better, McCarthy up top was deadly. Kicking on lovely from last year, I'll be surprised if ye're not in Croker come the end of July.
