Great win for Carlow today to secure promotion with a game to spare. carlovia (None) - Posts: 1525 - 10/03/2024 17:16:16 2530606 Link 0 |
Carlow are flying. Great follow up to last year's McDonagh. Laois will be expected to join them in the final and 1B. London and Donegal currently in the 2B semi-final spots to join Derry in Division 2 next year. It'll be a step up for London and Donegal but I suppose the new format is to give some teams at least a year of some tougher games. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8283 - 10/03/2024 17:49:41 2530612 Link 0 |
Interesting last round in store. Basically Kildare & Down both have to win and it's score difference that will decide who joins Laois in semi? Kildare will fancy chances at home v a probably weakened & already qualified Carlow while Down are at home to Meath.

I'd see Down as favourites to qualify for the semi-finals. Kildare have competed well. I don't see how it's good for hurling to have Kildare in the Ring. Expanding the McDonagh to 8 would be a better. Top 4 after 7 rounds going into semi-finals. Carlow and Laois will be taking on Dublin and Waterford in next year's league. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8283 - 11/03/2024 21:03:51 2530822 Link 0 |
Am I correct in assuming it's two up, two down between the top two divisions from next year on?

Yes, five divisions of seven. Two and two down. Waterford and Dublin will expect to be promoted from 1B. The two relegated from 1A will only expect to be in the division for one year. That was the major selling point.

If Meath were to beat Down and Carlow and Laois both win v Kildare and Kerry respectively, then Meath would slip in, in third place. Everyone still has some degree of skin in the game come the last round!

All very tight - Think Down need to win by 5 points to qualify. Sheridan's late goal could prove crucial. HurlingObserver (Down) - Posts: 61 - 16/03/2024 14:01:54 2531357 Link 0 |
Some last 20 mins by Down to dig it out and down to 14 men. Well done all.

Laois will be at home versus Down in the semi-final. Winner plays Carlow in the final. Laois v Down semi-final winner will be promoted to Division 1B. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8283 - 16/03/2024 15:44:27 2531385 Link 0 |
Oh hats off Observer. That was a permutation/observation rather than a prediction! Beat the Laois crowd now - ye have my best wishes there lol

We don't like to get ahead of ourselves Passer - Laois a tough place to go but wouldn't bet again this group.

How do you mean based on this year? Our 2nd string/League side beat Galways second string, drew with Clares, and drew and beat Kilkennys. The only side we lost to were Cork today, who had their 1st string out against our 2nd string. We even had a 20 year old lad start who was making his Senior hurling debut this afternoon!

Derry, Donegal and Tyrone will be in Division 2 next year. With Down likely to remain in Division 2 (2A equivalent), Division 2 will be something of an Ulster Championship. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8283 - 17/03/2024 15:58:03 2531688 Link 0 |
Potentially Antrim also

Antrim will be in 1B along with Dublin, Waterford, Westmeath, Offaly, Carlow and Laois or Down.

That will be a competitive league. The GAP between Munster, KK, Galway and the rest is too much currently upandwin (Down) - Posts: 112 - 20/03/2024 14:42:23 2532337 Link 0 |

Waterford are a Munster county upandwin. Wexford haven't lost a game of any sort to Kilkenny in 3 years, not since 2021. As far as the League goes we've won one and lost one against Limerick in the past 4 seasons, and won two, drawn one and lost one against Clare in the past 4 seasons, 2021 to 2024. We only beat Waterford 10 days ago, and we won one and lost 2 to Cork in the past 4 seasons. We have won one and lost one against Galway in that time also. So what gap are you talking about? Fair point - Wexford would be included as being above the rest of the hurling world also. Would throw Dublin in their too usually but they seem to have dropped off big time this year. Although seem to put in a respectable performance against Galway. Hope ye's have a competitive championship upandwin (Down) - Posts: 112 - 20/03/2024 17:49:37 2532382 Link 0 |
