Nothing too bad about that figure when you look at it. Cats generally bring a small crowd. They are a small county and semi finals are an annual event, no novelty what so ever. Bare in mind expectations weren't huge in Clare, lot of people travelled to the semi over the past 2 years expecting wins that never came. Also 2 championship defeats to Limerick this year, Munster final being particularly deflating. Bringing around 25k from a county of about 125k under those circumstances is great support. I don't think they saw themselves as likely All Ireland winners until yesterday. They were likely to have to go through 2 teams that have had the better of them in recent years. Different story now though, both of them are gone. dahayeser (Cork) - Posts: 353 - 08/07/2024 09:32:27 2557619 Link 0 |
Well put. Agree fully with this. Bandwagon or not and every county has one tbh I say embrace it. I mean next Sunday Donegal and Galway by all reports is likely to break the 60k. Not bad for two counties (for different reasons mind you) who were not really considered for the final shake up earlier in the season. Any chance for fans to see our heroes in the flesh is to be welcomed. Armagh Kerry likely to have less than Sunday (as Kerry probably aligns to your point on KK) although the Tailteann should add 7/8k to Saturdays schedule.

Clare and Kilkenny combined have a population of about 220k so almost 20% were in Croker yesterday, not amazing but not terrible either.

There's never full attendance though. If you look at previous All Ireland finals there might be 82 thousand odd but there might be 50 or so tickets that go missing or that aren't used for whatever reason. An example being being 2022 football final. There was an issue with some tickets, they wouldn't scan so some people weren't able to get in. They still put up 'Full house' but that wasn't wasn't case. I preferred when they gave the actual figure.

We don't need inter county then. Hundreds of great club games each week. That's where the true GAA fans are to be found. Roll on August and September, the Parish calls.

No need to get so upset. It just an observation mate. This is a forum after all.

The one who was upset was yourself whinging about not being told the specific attendance even though it was announced as 82,300. Little to be moaning about

Kilkenny v Clare, Croke Park 40,000 (Kilkenny supporter's do not travel in numbers) - ACTUAL 30,241 Limerick v Cork, Croke Park, 70,000 - ACTUAL 82,300 Armagh v Kerry, Croke Park, 5.30pm 60,000 (Tailteen Cup will account for 10,000+ and Kerry supporter's hold off to final) Donegal v Galway, Croke Park, 4pm 50,000 Any idea of numbers for this weekend? dingle82 (Down) - Posts: 231 - 09/07/2024 10:28:04 2557959 Link 0 |
ACTUAL 30,241?? I thought I saw figure given of 39k for Kilkenny v Clare. I think Donegal v Galway will for sure exceed 50k. Issue in Galway was most public transport was already sold out early last week and they don't seem to be willing to add on more carriages, times and buses so that is having an effect. Going by ticketmaster, only one of the main upper stands has not gone on sale yet with tickets moving well for each area they open up in drips and drabs. Didn't think id evoke such a response by making an observation. You need to relax. I suppose its easy to be a keyboard warrior on an anonymous forum.

Limerick v Cork last Sunday was offically 82,300 a record for an All Ireland Hurling semi Final . OpenStand (Limerick) - Posts: 717 - 09/07/2024 14:09:25 2558031 Link 0 |
A fitting attendance for a wonderful colourful spectacle of pace, outrageous skill, intensity and physicality from two free scoring teams. Not a shred of controversy over 80 mins with great respect evident between both sets of players and management. Another good aspect of last Sunday was that the BBC2 NI coverage was available free to air to a potential audience of one million in the UK and beyond compared to the max of 30,000 that the Sky Sport coverage reached. Very few seated tickets left online for Armagh v Kerry... it will surely be 60k at least.
