Seating In Cusack Stand Replacing

(Oldest Posts First)

Heard that croke park are replacing the seats in the cusack stand and are not allowing clubs to get them which I think is scandalous. Instead they are paying a company to take them away and scrapping them so much for loyalty to clubs.

The seats are obviously past their lifespan and need to be scrapped. It would be a health & safety risk to give them away. Some seats were sold however I assume they were ones deemed to be in good shape / not in regular use such as corporate seating. Anyhow what's the big deal? Why is it 'scandalous'?

I actually made enquiries about this. The seats were supposed to have a lifespan of approximately 20 years and have already been in use for about 25. Nobody's willing to stand over how much more use might be got from them, and if some started to snap in a club ground somewhere, it could open up a whole insurance barrel of worms if somebody was injured.

To me, it's a pity all right, but I wouldn't call it scandalous.

Correct I'd imagine it's all about law suits in the event of someone "hurting" themselves. The amount of people out there ready to claim and basically commit fraud is amazing. The Irish have become worse than the Americans per head of population for bogus claims according to one insurance report.

I heard on the radio that they are auctioning off a certain number of seats but they come with a warning to say they are not a reliable seat as they are past their usable lifespan.

I think they did the same with the old Hogan Stand back in the early noughties.

Maybe the gaa have considered re-use but have decided against it for logical reasons?

I have a seat number metal plate from the Cusack stand. The things on the side of each row. The reason being is that it must have fallen off and was sticking on my shoe on the way out so I just took it home with me. It would have been scrapped anyway.

Also on a similar note. I wonder if the seats in Carrickmore, Tyrone are the original Nally stand seats from the 1950s? The roof is from 2000 as it was replaced after the Hogan was knocked out.

I assume Tyrone got it because the architect of Croke Park was from Tyrone. It is a shame because they never even won an All Ireland in front of that stand. Armagh were the last to win it with that stand.

It must be exhausting carrying that big chip on your shoulder all day long.
