Replying To LohansRedHelmet:  ""Awful bunch of people on and off the pitch"?

Are you being serious? Youve let yourself down badly with that one."
I wouldn't agree with such a broad statement about Clare people in general, but in fairness, Clare have let themselves down badly in this one too.

As outlined even in a story in today's Examiner, they complained last Monday to Jarlath Burns about how the quarter-finals were fixed for such an early time on a Saturday, saying it was bad for any effort to promote hurling.

But when they got the opportunity a few days later to change things to a better time on the Sunday instead, they voted against it, presumably because it was Wexford who were the main ones seeking the change.

Wouldn't tar all Clare people with the one brush as "an awful bunch of people", but the ones involved in that could hardly be described as "daycent folks" either.

Agree with you lohansred helmet. It's very unfair for anyone to say that people from a certain county are "awful" that's hurtful and totally untrue.
You can't tar everybody with the same brush and make wild and inaccurate statements like that.
Every county or country for that matter has good and bad in them. We in Wexford are no better or worse than other counties. I think Storystash should apologise to the people of Clare for his outlandish and totally inaccurate hurtful outburst.

Talk to any hurling person from anywhere. There's nobody that wouldn't love to have Mac.

Replying To StoreysTash:  "From talking to my Dad tonight I am worried about the Wexford crowd at the game. There are those who are genuinely busy with Feile, and there are those who are saying **** you to the GAA authorities, we're not going.

It is always us who get the short end of these sticks. We seem to routinely get screwed by the GAA, and Leinster counties in general. The league restructure in the 10's screwed Wexford, the quarter final in Cork a few years ago, relegation in Leinster hurling championship but not in Munster. But this one takes the biscuit. What they said to the volunteers in our clubs was "we don't care".

You can bet your bottom dollar if Feile was in any Munster county, this would never have even been a discussion point. CCCC fix the match for 7pm on Saturday or Sunday and that is the end of it.

We were always going to lose a vote. That Clare voted against it says it all. Awful bunch of people on and off the pitch. But Wexford County Board were weak here, they should have simply refused to play the game before 7pm on Saturday and let the GAA deal with it however the **** they wanted to.

I have no drink on board tonight so won't go full cringe as before Kilkenny match last year, but I would appeal to the Wexford fans who can go to go to the game. Some of our greatest servants are nearing the end and need the support to get behind them for one last opportunity to get to a semi final. No point saying we will go to the semi, or not going in protest, or complaining about the road (it won't get any better), none of it helps the team who sacrifice a lot to play these games."
I get what your saying, the timing of this game and location does leave an awful lot to be desired, especially with the feile going on, it's beggars belief with the throw in times, especially as the Leinster final was thrown in at 7pm with no issue. If I was a wexford supporter I too would be raging with these decisions. But to call Clare people awful is sad. I've spent a lot of time down there and they are among the finest people I've met. I couldn't fault them.

Hard on Wexford fans alright. Hopefully some manage to get to the game.
On a positive note, they should beat a Clare team that have hit a wall and therfore a semi final to look forward to.
Will it be Limerick Wexford (I'm assuming Cork take care of the Dubs)

Don't mind him. That's an awful sweeping generalisation to make about Clare people. I know a lot of very sound Clare folk. Having said that, I didn't like the way Clare supporters in the Killinan end loudly booed Chin when he was taking frees two years ago. I was very surprised as I didn't expect that from Clare fans. The bottom line is that a lot of Wexford 'fans' will opt of of travelling to thurles on Saturday just because it's a difficult place to get to from Wexford…this happened in 2022 when there was a shockingly bad turnout of Wexford fans. If it was a semi final or final in Croke Park, every Tom, Dick and Harry would be there with their purple and gold on. The true supporters will be in attendance on Saturday notwithstanding the unfortunate people who will miss it due to the feile.

Visit Clare regularly and find the people really decent.
Would have no gra though for Lohan and some of their officials.I remember them accusing Wexford of playing guys with Covid in Ennis, Davy getting verbally abused by a Clare official in the stand the same year in portlaoise and another back room member getting involved in a spat again this year v Waterford. This week they voted against the fixture change. As kevin keegan famously said…. I would just love it if we beat them…. Hoping it's on Saturday

Replying To Afinestick96:  "Disappointing to hear requests are down. We should still have plenty of support regardless of feile as not every club is in the feile like years ago and clubs that are I would say 3/4 of people have no involvement with Feile teams or have to give a hand Saturday. Wexford fans just use Thurles as an excuse not to travel."
How can you say 3/4 have no involvement? On holidays this week and back on Saturday morning but I know our club have had people involved in everything from hosting to catering to stewarding to everything else that goes with running this event.
The Feile is a great opportunity for the county to show their best side, and is a county wide effort. For the upshot of that to be that they couldn't go to an All-Ireland quarter final is really disrespectful of the GAA on the volunteer ethos of the clubs.
GAA democracy at its worst, why couldn't the CCCC just fix the game and not have a vote? Why did they need a vote here? And what difference did it make to Galway or whoever when it was on?

Let just stick to the game lads, no point getting involved in anything else it is what it is and it will stop the like of lohanshelmet or whatever he called. just picking out the odd random negative think been said about Clare. Let focus on Wexford and the game from here on in.

Hosting and catering is normally done by parents of the players involved . Stewarding will need volunteers from the club to be fair but the vast majority of people from Wexford who cant go saturday are under 14 players involved in feile and their parents. I agree though it is a major own goal by the GAA and the CCC should have just fixed the game for Nowlan Park saturday night or Thurles on Sunday

Replying To WEXILE:  "The logic and thinking of a Wexford supporter myself included:

Their forwards as a unit are better I feel than our front 6. Not individually but as a unit

Their midfield shades it too. Savage work rate and used to high intensity games everyday they go out

Their backs would be closer to ours only our main physical presence is out in Liam Ryan. We are going to war with two 20 year olds or so in defence E. Ryan and Foley. Great chaps but still 1st season senior intercounty

Goalkeepers probably on par only Fanning in decent form Clares looks a bit shaky.

We will have no support really due to Feile

It's in Munster in a stadium we never win at.

We will not only have two 20 or 21 year old defenders we also should have another two very young players in Cian Byrne and Lawlor. Again great chaps and bright futures.

The old GAA saying Clare are further down the line. That couldn't be more true. Seasoned management battle hardened team against a debutant young manager in his 1st year. Who knows where Rossi can bring this team but if he was getting a report card this year I'd give him a B+. Looking after the older players and freshening the squad with new.

We have a few knocks too, still sweating on bodies. Clare aren't as far as I know.

In 2022 Clare pushed Limerick all the way in Munster and we almost pipped em with no Rory O Connor and Chin on one leg. I feel they were spent after Munster but we will have to wait and see this Saturday. We also didn't have a squad really that day.

Deep in our hearts we know that everything goes against a Wexford win here but yet we feel maybe we can. Ya never know

Either way, if you can go to it please do so. Those lads deserve all the support, Rossi deserves it too. One of our own. If we cab stick with em and be in contention down the home straight ya never know."
Clare are missing Taylor. Was their best player against us in 2022. TK and Ryan only back. Hogan and Rodgers are only 21 or 22. Lohan around the same. Will all be on the day.

There are a lot of clubs that have no involvement with feile its not like years ago where all clubs would have been involved. We will use it as an excuse if we have poor support but we had poor support in 2022 aswell with no feile . Our ''great'' supporters need to get off their backsides and if they can go and support the lads on Saturday. Interesting there has been no stand tickets available on ticketmaster since last night they will probably hold the best ones till later in the week which is infuriating"
I'll be there. Our bandwaggoners won't be out unless we have a game in Croke Park. A large percentage of our diehards will be involved with Feile. We will have even less there than in 2022. Sadly.

Replying To hunting:  "You couldn't throw those 2 lads in on Sunday. But they would be two good additions next year hopefully. This is Matt last year, my cousin was talking to him during the week. He going to oz to his girlfriend after club championships and what a servant he has been. Liam og the same I would think. Hopefully D O K will give it another year seen as he missed all this year through injury. But what servants and let's hope they go out on a high."
Heard that about Matt too.

Don't mind him . He's a long time in Australia at this stage. Tact isn't something Australians are famous for. At the same time you can't blame people down here for being annoyed with your Board. I know Lohan wants every competitive advantage possible, and I guess us having less supporters and one day's less rest are small advantages, but these are surely only very small advantages.

We have very fond memories here in Ennis of Feile in Wexford. We won the tournament in 1999 in Wexford playing Glen Rovers in the final. Great time for the club and fantastic trophy to win.

Was this the last time it was held in Wexford or was it more recently held there too?
