Ballymaguigan (Derry) v Arva (Cavan) - Arva by 12
Fintona (Tyrone) v Drumaness (Down) - Fintona by 9
Blackhill (Monaghan) v Rasharkin (Antrim) - Blackhill by 8"
6/6 for this weekends predictions isn't bad going if I say so myself.

Lisnaskea beating the Donegal champions probably the biggest call in that.

The Cavan Junior Champions Arva beating the Derry champions by 15 points may seem a shock result but the Cavan Champions are a division 1 side and stayed up in division 1 this year.

Kilcoo didn't win by the 22 I predicted but they were halfway there at HT being 11 up. They took their foot off the gas second half saving themselves for next weekend. They looked incredible in the first half I must admit. Were sloppy 2nd Half. Eugene Brannigan ran the show at times. Results below.

game over at HT, could have won by 20 if they wanted to push on very comfortable.

The Na Rossa lads were furious with the officiating. Three players, the manager and even the physio all sent off!

Seen that in the match report alright.

When was the 2nd and 3rd Rossa players sent off? I know Lisnaskea went down to 14 aswell last quarter.

Lisnaskea have pedigree in Ulster, winning the Intermediate All Ireland in 2010 and are Fermanagh's second most succesful side in terms of senior championships. Hard to believe a town that size find themselves in junior.

Can't see them getting anywhere near Arva next round though. Blackhill or Fintona will facy their chances v Arva in the final but you'd have to have Arva strong favourites for Uster at this point.

After Fermanagh senior and intermediate champs both hammered yesterday I wouldn't have much hope for Skea

Sorry for my ignorance of Cavan club football, but how is a division 1 team playing junior football?

In Cavan as in some counties. Promotion and relegation via league and championship is separate. If you win the championship.. you move up in championship. To get promoted in the league you must do so accordingly. Ballyhaise the intermediate champions also play Div 1.

Cavans 3 representatives in ulster club this year all play Division 1…..

The 2020 Cub Championships were played during Covid and the Cavan County Board opted to not relegate any teams.

So in 2021 they relegated 2 teams to compensate this. Drumlane and Arva were both relegated from Intermediate in 2021 and were considered decent intermediate teams.

They definitely weren't the two worst intermediate teams on paper but were relegated on merit as they had bad years. Arva also had a few players who emigrated and injured which further contributed to their bad year.

Arva got promoted from Division 2 last year and Drumlane won the junior championship beating Arva in the final with a last gasp point (Drumlane were underdogs, but were in a promotion playoff from division 2 as well but were beaten)

Drumlane were beaten on penalties in the Ulster Final by Stewartstown who went onto the All Ireland Final v Clifford Fossa.

Arva won the Junior Championship this year and have a lot of their players back that were missing the year they got relegated. They are good enough to be a top end intermediate team in Cavan. They stayed up in Division 1 this year via a relegation play off win v Ballinagh who got to the senior championship quarter finals this year.

I would say that this is a one off but Knockbride who were beaten by Arva in the Junior Final this year got promoted to Division 1 this year aswell and should win junior at a canter next year.

It should correct itself in a year or two but junior is alot stronger in Cavan than it was previously as there are 14 teams instead of the 10, 6 or 7 years ago.

Hope this didn't confuse you haha.

I'd imagine league is not based on championship grade or linked to championship and there is promotion and relegation in league. It was the same in Wexford for years and reintroduced last year. So if a junior team won 2 promotions in row in league they would be playing higher graded teams for league only. Would still be a junior team for championship.

Thanks - that provide alot of clarity. I'd imagine Arva supporters would be hoping for them to push on beyond the province in that case.

Joke of a set up, going foward Ulster counsel would need to step in to cut this nonsense out , how can an intermediate team be Div 1 ,and to crown the whole nonsense the junior winners also play Div 1 , In Down Kilcoo play div 1, Liatroim were almost relegated to div 3 and Drumaness won div 4, all teams playing at their level

I'm not sure this is the issue in Cavan though. Anyways the league has been diluted in many counties due to the split season and county players being unavailable.

The problem is when they decided to reduce the number of senior teams in Cavan from 16 to 12 and increased Junior from 10 to 14. This decision made sense as there was a big gulf in senior at the time and 16 teams was too many.

To do this they had to relegate 3 teams from senior and intermediate on 2 separate occasions and relegated 2 teams on another occasion to compensate for no relegation in the Covid year as I mentioned on my previous post.

Now the problem with this is that the worst teams in intermediate didn't always get relegated as they happened to have a off year as happens in all sports.

Due to the fact that only one team can get promoted via championship by winning it outright this has taken years to correct itself.

There has been a massive gulf in Cavan Junior football in recent years. Cavan football would be bettered served with 4 divisions of 10 ie. Senior, Intermediate, Junior Premier, and Junior. Cant see clubs agreeing to this though.

Cavan are not abusing the system like Kerry are with only 8 Senior teams. The split is 12 Senior 14 Intermediate and 14 Junior. However something will have to be done to help the smaller junior teams as they are being cut adrift.

"Cavan are not abusing the system like Kerry are with only 8 Senior teams" since when did Kerry have only 8 teams in the county championship?

They have 8 Senior teams and 8 Regional teams in the County Championship which means Kerry's 9th best team represent them in the Munster Intermediate Championship and Cavan's 13th best team represent them.

They have 8 Standalone Senior sides.

8 + 8 = 16. You said there's only 8 teams. There's 8 clubs yes but not only 8 teams.
