Tomsmith here from County Cavan

Listening to Ireland call on Saturday evening and looking at the 100 % Irish participation in every word of it I wonder if iot was played before Gaa games instead of the National Anthem would it appeal to more people to participate from the wider community. The Gaa is somewhat lost to a large group of people in for instance Nothern IIreland .
It would be worth considering if we were / want to atrack people who have an allegiance to an non EEC Country

No. Ireland's Call - dreadful and all as it is - makes sense because a sizeable part of rugby in Ireland is Protestant/British. GAA sports have little or no appeal them for reasons way beyond any symbolism.

No other countries are so obsessed with watering down their identity to accommodate people who for the most part have no interest in any part of it. And not just talking about the unionist population.

Yeah, could easily see Micheal D side by side with invited guest Ursla Vonderline, belting out Ireland's call before next year's hurling final.

I believe that it would, or maybe something by Snow Patrol or perhaps Vertigo by U2?

I don't think the national anthem is holding anyone back from playing GAA, and if it was those are the kind of people that no organisation should be looking to have in their fold.

No Tam, another stupid post. 32 county National Anthem is called National for a reason. Not all the players sing Irelands call either. GAA is no more lost to people in the North of Ireland as any other part where they play soccer or rugby. If Tyrone don't do well next year wouldn't it be great to see either Micky Harte or Jim Mc Guinness do well. Hu, Hu, Hu.

Those who have a problem with A na bhF will find a new reason e.g Stadium names, trophy names, using Gaeilge etc.

We should just give the people what they want. Maniac 2000 as the offical national anthem from here on out.

Barney Tomsmith here from the Home of Ulster football ie Cavan
Barney of 2007 posts you make good sense most of the time but I am afraid you are stuck in a rut this time.
Barney we are in changing time and we are under attack from sevaeral sports for the services of our young people.
We have to be attractive to all shades of our community.
If you take the position in Belfast would it not be lovely to have Shankhill Road Gaels play Ardoyne in a Gaa game . Sure that is what sports is all about.
It is well worth considering when you see the venom that the Irish supporters belted out Irelands call in Paris before the Rugby game.
Everyone was so so proud to sing every word of it, you could hear a pin drop .
I say give it a try for a few years

Phil Coulter is a soccer man. Ex-President of Derry City.

We need a song from a solid GAA person.

The best candidate has to be Aon Focal Eile, by Richie Kavanagh - who hurled for the Naomh Eoin club in Carlow.

As a bonus, the lyrics reference the Battle of the Boyne (which is sure to please our Unionist brethren) and also celebrate the Irish language (which will keep GAA diehards happy).

I take it as only in rural Cavan could you envisage a Shankhill Road geals playing anywhere near the Shankhill. East Belfast GAC isn't open 5 minutes and there's been several security alerts and threats to its members. This is from a more affluent mixed part of the east too. The staunchly unionist working class Shankhill would chew it up and spit it back down the Falls even if they played God Save The Queen before every match. Come on Tom, you'll have to do better than that.

I can see where you are coming from.
Maybe play it before all Ulster championship matches or even all matches including National League played in Ulster venues.
In Connacht, Leinster and Leinster, play Ámhráin na bFhiann.
If an Ulster team makes it to a National final in Croke Park, play both the National anthem and ireland's call

Flippin Irelands Call, no depth or meaning to the song. Didn't take the rugby crew long to effectively replace it with Zombie. Quite strange how we move from National Anthem to Zombie ; one war song to another. Tis in da blood whatever the color

Why dont we lend them one of our stadiums so Northern Ireland can host games in Euro 2028. Maybe that would encourage them more.
