Replying To ForeverBlue2:  "You said not all coaches get paid ( true ) and I merely pointed out to you that all outside coaches do get paid and are a blight on the game and it's delusional for anyone to say or think otherwise… It was reported somewhere that 8 out of 10 clubs now had an outside coach or manager…. If true then this is totally staggering when as shown at the top level outside managers/coaches win next to nothing"
You read a report that 80 per cent of clubs have an outside manager? Have you any involvement in GAA? Seriously? Are you a club member? Do you go to any club games? Show me this report you read or send me the link? Thanks.

Most players can run forever but lack the basic skills of the game… thanks in main to lazy defensive take no risk coaches..!"
Ah yes kicking from the ground. Imagine giving a toss if players can do that or not. Has zero impact on the game.

Oh man!!!! Lazy cliche after lazy cliche. Players of today are athletes who can't kick the ball over the bar from 30 metres? David Clifford, Shane Walsh, Conor McManus, Oisin Gallen, Paul Mannion, Brian Fenton, Darren McCurry, Ryan O Donoghue, Conor Glass, Sam Mulroy, Ciarán Downey, Rory Beggan, Seán O Shea, Brendan Rogers, Enda Smith, Shane McGuigan and Cillian McDaid. I could go on but even you should be able to get the message. I went to my first All Ireland football final in 1972. I have been to 56 All Ireland Senior football finals. I have seen all the great teams and all the great players on their biggest days. I have seen players at all levels from under 10 to senior inter county over the years. I have been involved in coaching and management since I was nineteen years of age. I am still involved. I have worked at all levels from under ten to senior inter county. Believe you me the players of today are every bit as skilled if not moreso than the players of the past. I don't say that to be disparaging of the players of the past. I have the height of admiration for them and I loved going to see them. What I can't have is the lazy, cliched, hackneyed, poorly informed assertions of negative serial moaners like you. Now like I said before you need some solitary introspection and reflection.

With an attitude like that it's no wonder football is in the dire state it's in… kicking off the ground was always a great skill in the game…and you claim to be some kind of coach… They should just let 45's be kicked from the hand as well to make life easier for lazy coaches like yourself…,

It was on an article in the newspaper weeks ago but it's common knowledge…I thought 8/10 was high myself until I realised the amount of clubs in my own county with outside management…. Clubs are putting themselves in debt paying these guys … and for what..? I have been going to club and county games all my life but I do admit I have almost totally given up on the dire unwatchable rubbish that's been churned out at County level these days…

The issue is not with the players but with the way the game is currently played. I will ask this question again- why did Jarlath Burns set up a high powered "review committee" if there is not a problem with the way games are currently played? By the way I too have been involved with football all my life but don't feel the need to include my "c.v".

45 is different you are just being silly now. I don't care if frees are kicked from the ground. Nobody should. Such a stupid thing to be worrying about.

What newspaper? Can't find an article like that. Probably because it doesn't exist. Those figures you quoted are nonsense.

How many changes do you think should be made? I don't have any problem with a couple of new rules. I have a problem with stupid ideas which there are plenty of on here. And i have a problem with people saying most games are terrible. They are not. When people on here tell me they still think games are terrible even when they are high scoring how can we have an intelligent debate?

The figures might be nonsense, Im only quoting them but it doesn't matter if it's 8/10 or 2/10 the point is still the same… let it be at club or county level paid outside coaches/managers are one of the major problems within the GAA…. You are not telling me now that you would agree with outside coaches…??

You can't. There are none so blind as those who don't wish to see Flaker. Let them wallow in their own misery especially that poor Cavan chap.

As I've said to you before, there have been plenty of review committees in the past and there will be plenty of them in the future. Games evolve. Complaining about football has been a national pastime since God was a garsún. I think you will find that it is grey haired, white haired or people with no hair at all who are the people who are complaining most about football. Which type are you? Ask the young people who are playing the game if they think there is a problem with the way the game is played. They were in Croke Park in huge numbers at both the quarter finals and semifinals finals this season.

I.think a cohort of people in the 50+ age group have a nostalgic attachment to the 'shape' football was played in, pre Tyrone '03 and Donegal '12. Football fans who carry this nostalgic attachment, are somewhat offended seeing 29 players between the goal and the 70 yard line, trying to hold possession and recycle until weaving a chance. They're even more irritated and 'quiet' watching intercounty players kicking balls and handpassing back and over outside 'the contact zone' for what can seem like an eternity on some occasions. For those folk, they're not looking at scoreboards to see if matches are any good. They're trying to reconcile the game they knew with the game they're attending/not attending now, and many are struggling with that reconciliation.

No matter how many review committees are set up things won't change until the thought process of coaches change…. Your own County going down the road of bringing in an outside coach to take over your county youth teams is a woeful move for any County board to allow happen… the same guy who walked out on the senior team a few months ago even makes it more laughable… Why are Louth throwing good money after bad on a guy like this… He is there for one thing and it's not for the good of Louths GAA future.. that's a guarantee .. Are you genuinely happy with this appointment…?

So you don't know where you read it and you don't care if the articles are lies as long as it backs up your point. Have you any idea of how stupid you look making that point?

There is a problem with with clubs throwing big money to outside coaches. I have seen that first hand. But not all outside coaches are bad. I am an outside coach currently. I claim driving expenses and nothing more and have had a successful time in the past 2 years. Do you consider a coach who travels 45 mins in his own county to take a team an outside coach. There are different levels of outside coaches. It's not black and white. Ask Galway people their opinion on their outside coach from 98 to the early 2000s. It's not always a bad thing.

Exactly and that has always been the way. I can remember very clearly the great Kerry team of the seventies and eighties being compared unfavourably to their team of 1939, 40 and 41. I can remember the football the team of the seventies and eighties played being called basketball as men of previous generations spoke about the catch and kick style of football.
