Same as that. Apart from the lad that thought we should just do hurling in the summer and football in the winter! The top table at that meeting a couple of weeks ago seemed to be pushing for alternate blocks though.

Really? I knew they were strong but thought it might of been a bit closer than what you reckon.

If somebody wanted to get really technical and petty, they could argue that 'Ballinastragh Gaels' shouldn't even be in the U21 competition.

Ballinastragh Gaels is the approved name for the Coiste na nÓg amalgamation between the clubs. But the U21 grade is an adult competition, not a Coiste na nÓg one. So since it's football, they should just be competing under the name Kilanerin, same as they do in all other adult grades.

Basically, the argument would be that there's no adult side called Ballinastragh Gaels, and so a team bearing that name shouldn't be in an adult competition in the first place.

Think its a matter that there will never be consensus on across the board, must be remembered only 1 vote in it last year.

I would think so too, would have had Gorey and Glynn as their toughest opposition and they beat Gorey in the QF and Glynn lost to the Martins by a point at that stage,

Says thats to suit co board as if declared adult competition u18s could nt play .
And if it was declared adult it would open a can worms if u18s allowed play . Which could open door for teams to play with their actual adult teams .
An u 18 y could possibly play adult county befire he plays adult with club in league or championship or most likely pre season comps o byene cup ,walsh cup . If same rules applied last year Cian Hughes would have done this .

Sorry to be so blunt, but you're actually wrong on all counts. And it's all set out in the official Rule Book so that it applies nationally, rather than the County Board making up things here to suit themselves.

First, it is an adult competition. This is plain even from how it's organised and run by the adult CCC rather than the Coiste na nÓg one.

However, the fact that it's an adult competition doesn't mean that a minor who's playing in it is also allowed to play in all adult competitions. The relevant rules for U21 and U20:
Under 21: A Player shall have celebrated their 16th birthday prior to January 1st. and their 21st. birthday on or after January 1st. of the Championship Year.
Under 20: A Player shall have celebrated their 16th birthday prior to January 1st. and their 20th. birthday on or after January 1st. of the Championship Year

i.e. anybody who's overage for U16 at the start of the year (i.e. a minor player) but who hasn't yet turned 20 or 21 at the start of the year (depending on whether it's an U20 or U21 competition) is eligible to play in it.

The relevant rule for the other adult competitions is:
A Player shall have celebrated their 18th birthday prior to January 1st of the Championship Year

i.e. you have to be overage for U18 before you're eligible to play Senior/Intermediate/Junior.

As for the inter-county thing, this is also from the official Rule Book:
INTER-COUNTY
Adult:
A player shall have celebrated their 18th birthday prior to January 1st of the Championship Year

There's a separate rule for U20 inter-county, allowing you to play that if you're already at least 17 at the start of the year. But basically, you still have to be at least 18 at the start of the year before you can play in anything like the O'Byrne Cup, Walsh Cup, National Leagues, or any of the championships. In other words, in the year of your 18th birthday, the only inter-county competition you're eligible to play in is U20.

Point still stands about 'Ballinastragh Gaels' not being a registered name of an adult club or an adult amalgamation, if anybody wanted to get technical or petty about it.

So can a 15 year old playing first year u17 overage for u15 play u20 in counties using u20 still as the eldest underage group.
Are you involved with co board not first time you ve leapt to their defence . Most rules in the gaa are open to interpretation .
. No difference at present being kilanerin/tara rocks or ballinstraw gaels . They are all indr same umbrella unless its pulled at some stage

As far as I know they've only won hurling titles but I could be wrong. Apparently back in the day during the mid 60s they beat the Alley by 33 points in an Intermediate hurling final!

Kilanerin tara rocks ballinsraw gaels are all the same now unless the agreement is revoked .
I m just cynical and there are always reasons for such wording and reasons why things named in certain ways its not by chance. It can't be as too many challenges otherwise .
U21 won't come up if you go to adult fixtures in website . Ballinstraw gaels fixtures are nt on website unless yiu search who they play or played .

Mention of rules around age and adult eligibility above. Does anyone know if there is any scope to bring down the age to play adult at all? Having to be 18 the year before means you have to be turning 19 in the year you wish to play adult. Surely there is appetite out there to reduce this by 1 year at least? Is it something that can be looked at within Wexford or is that a national decision?

Is the Kilanerin/tara rocka amalgamation up for review again or how long did the county board give them last time, Kilanerin have huge numbers without tara tocks players, i know its the tara rocks side where the numbers is the issue, lookks like this is going to be a full time amalgamation

It's a fixtures issue. If minors can play adult then you can't schedule minor and adult games at the same time or too close together. You can't run the minor championship earlier in the year on account of the Leaving Cert.
