in fairness to them adamstown have come a long way in the last while, unlucky yesterday, but they show if a team get organised, have a good manager who has a game plan, and are well trained they can go a long way, Stmunnsriver (Wexford) - Posts: 2890 - 08/10/2023 09:23:28 2507316 Link 0 |

Two cracking senior football semi-finals. hurlorhurley (Wexford) - Posts: 1660 - 08/10/2023 20:13:41 2507418 Link 0 |
Presume you mean the second Shels goal (the O'Gara one), where the referee allowed Shels the advantage in the build-up to the score after one of their men was dragged down? Didn't seem bizarre to me as it happened - I heard no whistle, certainly nobody seemed to stop, and there were two further passes before O'Gara finished to the net. Have just watched it back on the stream, and that's still the way I'm seeing it. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2620 - 09/10/2023 01:14:10 2507463 Link 0 |
I reckon Kilanerin threw it away, had chances to kill the game with goals, I thought ref was poor didn't allow the game to flow, numerous times pulled back for frees after giving advantage after getting a score. Shels lucky to get a vital goal off an advantage. Kilanerin probably a year too early. Lennonscross (Wexford) - Posts: 3 - 09/10/2023 01:42:55 2507466 Link 0 |
Yes and a great final to look forward to. I think Castletown will edge a close game.

Yes, Shels 2nd goal was the one. I haven't watched it back, but the people around me all thought there was a whistle and the SE radio commentary thought likewise

I thought that was an excellent piece of refereeing tbh. I just watched it back. The Ref awarded Shels a free out around the middle of the field. Which they took quickly. The Kilanerin guys were slow to react to it but i wouldn't say Everyone Stood up or stopped, there were a further 2 advantages given to Shels subsequently before the final pass for the goal.

St martins lack of football training really stood against them, two goalkeeper errors really cost them also, cudnt get enough quality ball into oisin who scored 2 great points in second half, daithi waters came on in midfield, probably better in full forward, jack o Connor never got a run, anyway Gorey will final easy,, I cudnt get to senior semi, but heard they were good football in them Lockerroomboy (Wexford) - Posts: 472 - 09/10/2023 10:40:15 2507505 Link 0 |
On the stream it looks like O'Gara was in the square for that one. Castletown grinding out results without ever looking like they're at 100 percent. It will be an interesting final. SunnySouthEast (Wexford) - Posts: 16 - 09/10/2023 10:48:06 2507511 Link 0 |
A big enough shock in the junior this weekend with Buffers Alley turning over Blackwater. Wasn't expecting that one. btwex90 (Wexford) - Posts: 27 - 09/10/2023 12:12:49 2507537 Link 0 |
Yep he was in the square when he made contact - but he was outside when the pass was played and ran in. Thats ok within the rules (changed about 8 years ago)

Have watched that closely on the stream too, and he was clearly standing right on the line until the ball was played across towards him. Actually very clever positioning by O'Gara, and 100% allowed, so no mistake on the part of referee or umpires there.

Exactly. I'd have said ten years rather than eight for when the rule was changed, but either way, so long as you're outside the square when the ball is played in, you can be inside it before the ball actually arrives there. Different rule in hurling, where you still can't be inside the square before the ball, unless the ball is going so high over the bar that neither you nor anybody else had any hope of actually playing the ball anyway. Incidentally, another one from yesterday where it seems many people aren't sure of the actual rule either. It came towards the end of Castletown v Gusserane, where a Gusserane player kicked the ball soccer-style towards goal during a scramble, and it came back off the boot or shin of a Castletown player. There were shouts of "footblock!", but the footblock rule only applies if a player is kicking the ball from the hands. It doesn't apply if he's kicking from the ground. What was the second goalkeeper error? Cushinstown well the better team, one point defeat flattered Martins. The Martins tactics off the ball were disgusting.

Cushintown got two straight red cards, I wasn't at the game but were these deserved?

Two straight reds in the senior relegation game as well - for the lads who know the rules - will they carry over to the Intermediate next year? How about the CB player that got the two yellows - I think this all goes back to the same competition argument and if the relegation playoffs are a new competition. Its bad form if the CB has not changed the status since the Coleman incident a couple of years back. You cannot have a one off game without any consequences around red cards.
