Replying To letsgetgoing:  "After starting this thread, (post 1) I have read very little in the 147 posts on this thread and the very repetitive, and often biased/boring 565 posts on the 2023 Dublin v Kerry thread to enlighted me and make me change my mind.
Time to move on to the club scene before I fall asleep."
You support Roscommon, have you not slept enough already?

Replying To Joxer:  "Had Geaney not over hopped the ball Cluxton would have smothered it. Look at it again. Scoring 2 pressure points and hitting a free man with every kick-out is not an average game for a goalkeeper. Cluxton and Beggan are the two best keepers in the country. The fact that the dodgy Geaney goal was the only one he conceded this year behind what many considered a poor Dublin defence this year, says something for his performances. Some great close range reflex saves this year, excellent under the high ball bar one drop, unparalleled kick out accuracy and 2 points in an AI final. He's still no. 1 and the GOAT in that position."
I've looked at it.
With a man back on the line, he should've been out quicker. He wasn't.
OTB made a very good point - Shane Ryan made a save that won Kerry a match (v Derry). Cluxton didn't have to do that this year. Not his fault, but for me Ryan was the better keeper this year.

Replying To Joxer:  "Where did I say that there were issues with Mayo players? Winning the AI has everything to do with it as you keep saying that Dublin supporters are upset about POTY. How could we be upset when we've won the only prize that matters? You seem to be the only one who gives a fiddlers about POTY."
Looks like someone logged into the wrong account because I never asked you that did I?

Probably would have won that one in 91 if o Rourke was fit to play the whole match nearly turned it around for us that day but in fairness that was a very good Down team.Thats mad about Heffernan getting it but didnt play. How did that happen?

Dodgy goal? Eventhough it was explained by the top referees it was a legit goal. What about Smalls goal. Sure only for the "dodgy" deflection maybe Ryan might have saved it. Note I say "might" whereas you know Cluxton would have saved Geaney shot.

Yes when Ó Rourke came on that day he was superb and changed the game but twas too late
On Kevin Heffernan i don't know. There was such excitement over Dubs revival maybe. Heffo was the manager.

He left himself open to that. Still, Roscommon were the only team to take anything off Dublin in the championship this Summer. And in Croke Park as well.

Dick Clerkin's article today on why Clifford is obviously player of the year is very convincing.

Clifford had a poor final by his own standards, but was way ahead of McCarthy's performance in the final.
Clifford's semi-final was the standout performance by any player in any match in this year's championship.

On what basis would McCarthy get it ahead of Clifford?

If there was the injury time on the scale of today's Meath would have won that game, Down were goosed at that stage, was some effort from the Royal considering what happened earlier on in that championship.

Wow impressive you can not only manage multiple accounts, although not doing a great job of that, you can also tell us things that didn't happen would in fact have happened.

I think Fenton is the only contender with Clifford and I could make a strong case for him. He stepped up and delivered at the crucial stages of the quarter, semi and final.
He got on a huge amount of ball in the final and hardly wasted a possession. Obviously he kicked two scores from midfield too. His tracking and the pressure he put on the opposition was also exceptional. He ticks a huge amount of boxes.

Multiple accounts LOL. I've been posting on HS for over 2 decades I guess when PaddyOGall, Whiterbananas, TheMaster and Loyal2TheRoyal were in their pomp. You're what we call a WUM.

I can't understand for the life of me why the POTY seems to have to come down to either McCarthy or Clifford. This narrative started before the game and continued straight after.

Both had a brilliant seasons - and if it were to come down to the final well then I'd have tbh Clifford performed slightly better, so Clifford would deserve it …IF it was between these two!!

But for me the POTY is Brian Fenton - and I can't for the life of me understand why not many people are even mentioning his name!! The media ran with a narrative and everyone is going with it!

Fenton was consistently good all season, getting better with each game, and when it really came to the crunch in knockout football, he stood up!!! He was absolutely immense in the QF, SF and Final!!! And you can talk about league and whatever else but we all know these are the games that win you this award normally.

So my POTY is Fenton!!!

But I really couldn't care less who gets it - wouldn't begrudge any of the names mentioned above as they all had great seasons!!

Why did you answer a question then I never asked you? Or are you just going to pretend that didn't happen?

When you say "we" do you mean all your other accounts?

When I say We, I mean the well established non-WUM posters of course. Your obsession with all things Dublin continues I see.

I didn't mention Small's goal because we're talking about Cluxton here. You've come in on a conversation without reading the context. Cluxton got down three times on Geaney. His first attempt to block forced Geaney to pivot. His second attempt to block in a straightened position forced Geaney into his second "hop". His third attempt saw the ball go under his body. It was good goalkeeping to force Geaney to pivot twice and hold him up to get a defender on the line. Alas it wasn't to be.

Actually the more I think of it - Fenton is actually a very good call for POTY.

He was definitely a man on a mission this year and led by example.

Nominations will probably be the following 3
Fento
Jamesie
DC

Pick them already!

Getting silly now. There are a few obvious candidates, and as a Dub I would just about say that Clifford for consistency should get the nod, Don't think anyone really object. Almost certain anyway given the electorate.
