This would be my Team of the Year foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2145 - 24/07/2023 13:01:52 2496517 Link 0 |
TJ obviously an all time great, but by my count he scored 0 points from play across the last 2 games of the season. I'd have Kelly or Cathal Mannion as an outside shout at 11

I'd agree with that selection,I also had conlan at 6 and wod in midfield..is it the first time ever that everyone agrees on the 6 forwards??seems to be no debate at all.I also think 14 of that team picked will be all stars..Nicky probably unlucky but Murphy for semi final save alone probably deserves it.. I think TJ Reid's season was over praised myself.

TJ didn't make it 2023. No debate really?.......you probably missed all KKs matches until the semi final, you were so fully absorbed in that Munster championship. I'd rate Tj one of the greatest ever, but he doesn't merit a 2023 all-star imo, and quite obviously KK don't merit 5 times more selections than Galway after the 2023 season we've just seen.

Ha.. I think you've let yourself down with that statement..

It didn't go on long enough to qualify as a lament. I would call Jackie's selection a no sense selection, rather than a no nonsense one. There's no possible justification for KK getting 5 times more all-stars than Galway after the season we've seen. Possible remedies? Daithi Burke and Cathal Mannion in, TJ and Michael Butler out, or if Galway 2023 only merit 1 selection, select KK players in line with that realty. So replace Butler with Nash or Casey, and TJ with Kelly or Cian Lynch or someone else. Pope_Benedict (Galway) - Posts: 4006 - 24/07/2023 14:54:29 2496566 Link 1 |
problem with the Galway players outside of Daithi Burke, is as sure as night follows day, the huge performances one day are followed by a dissapearng act the next day, or relatively moderate performance...had they beat Limerick in the semi final, Kilkenny would have beat them yesterday...

TJ was very good in the Leinster Final and AI semi final, only KK forward who played well yesterday was Tom Phelan.

it was amost surreal to see Kilkenny getting such big hits and harried and hassled, normally they can are the administrators...TJ Reid won one ball yesterday and immediately was put to ground in no uncertain fashion...nothing dirty but just tough fair hits..and believe you me Kilkenny would have won against other teams yesterday other than Limerick, their first touch and catching and hitting and coming out of the ruck was no worse yesterday than any other game all year except Limerick were as good and better a match for them..people shouting for Kilkenny yesterday with their 36 All Irleands and Limerick enjoying a golden era after dismal days in the wilderness in the 1980s in particular and then 1990s losing 2 All Irelands...I was routeing for Limerick yestersay, always have, and hope now they go on and do the 5 in a row...

I hope the critique of Kilkenny is as harsh as it was for Galway after a 9 point loss to Limerick and a 2nd half blow-out

Pope, you're the one with a monopoly on "no sense". Every poster on here realizes that at this stage! Teams like this and All-stars are based on individual performances throughout the year, not on the collective team performance. How much of that do you not understand? foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2145 - 24/07/2023 17:07:30 2496618 Link 0 |
I'd agree with that. Mikey Butler has become a KK folk hero because of the marking job on TK but I'd have Barry Nash ahead of him every day. I think TJ Reid is a fantastic player. He was immense in the All Ireland final last year but no where near as good this year. If he's picked on the All Star team this year, it's based off of his reputation alone. I'd still pick TK at centre forward and I wouldn't be upset if Mannion was picked instead.

All-stars are never based on performances throughout the year. only ever based on the semi-final and final. Should be done over the year but never happens

It won't be, but it should be. For as good as Limerick we're, KK were a shambles in the second half

Dealer agrees with ME for a shhtart!! Kk:Galway 5:1 all star ratio makes no sense. I'm happy enough if Galway merit one, but then kk and Clare only merit 1 each also. Jacky must be having a laugh giving FIVE yo his team. TJ wasn't an all star this year. Mickey Butler has to make way too, as we can't overrepresent Kk on this team. Daithi Burke is never far off all-star material, and he showed up all year, unlike TJ. I'm TJs biggest fan of course, aren't we all!!

Your clearly a slow learner, if you're still finding it 'almost surreal' seeing this Limerick team whupping ass, even KK ass. They've been very good since 2018, and they've been great since 2020. It's 2023.

Agreed. TJ not deserving on performances this year and Barry Nash is always excellent for Limerick. I was surprised Nash didn't get a mention on the Sunday game last night.

Tony Kelly this championship year. 4 22 from play. Average of 5 points from play per game. Across 7 games. Against LK twice, KK, 3 other munster counties and Dublin. Not many other forwards in All star conversation who can point to those from play statistics. TK judged unfairly by very high standards. The cold hard analysis is that he scored more than most in the all start conversation [before you even factor in he wasnt playing championship v westmeath/antrim/wexford]. Also he played very deep for most of the KK game once Ryan Taylor had his cruciate knobbled by a KK lad near end of first half. For the so called no show in the biggest game of the year yesterday. TJ Reid as much of a no show yesterday. Tom Morrissey subbed off in both semi final and final. Was good in munster campaign - like Tony K etc.

If the Sunday Game producers and presenters had any interest in fairness, objectivity, in avoiding conflicts of interest they would not have recently retired players involved in the selection process. I would have confidence in Canning and Dowling to be fair but they're still in an awkward position re former team mates, county loyalty etc. The opposite is true of Tyrell, he's basically rooting for KK and can't hide his dislike of Galway. He's the one trick bully on the panel and the others are not willing to take him on. baire (Galway) - Posts: 1849 - 25/07/2023 08:36:30 2496702 Link 0 |
