All Ireland Final 2023 - Dublin V Kerry

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Dubs were lucky today. They did not play well but won. For once they got the Reffing calls. Usually Kerry get them. Scappy game. Right result for GAA and Gaelic football imho. Obviously disappointment for the heroic Kerry lads.

Replying To hyperache:  "For what? Clifford must have kicked 5/6 wides, had a goal chance or two too. Another day he'd had kicked 1-8. I don't think Mick Fitzsimons won a ball in front of him? Clifford beat him every time and just didn't fire."
Didn't have to. There's more than one way to be a good defender. Clifford off but Fitzsimons made life difficult for him as well.

Replying To galwayford:  "Dubs should do it. But if Kerry get a good start it will go down to the wire. My head says Dubs by 2 pts. But also I think might go to extra time."
Galwayford calls it right again. No extra time though, It probably should have been.

Clifford is amazing, but he absolutely fell asunder last 20.

McCarthy hinted at retirement, so did Rock. I would imagine that's it for Cluxton and maybe others. Next year could really be very open. It's up to other counties to make the most of the opportunity.

Dublin have been brilliant but there was an end of an era feel to that.

Replying To wishfulthinkin:  "man of the match between paudie and mannion? everyone mentioning fitzsimons..clifford beat him to every ball and put him on his arse a few times, clifford just couldn't find his kicking boots."
Mannion for me. 0-5 scored and well involved outside the scores, his best display in the Dublin jersey since returning. Its was need also with Con O'Callaghan not scoring and Costello with 0-1 a free and subbed off.

Replying To Saynothing:  "Second bounce didn't hit the ground, it h hit his foot. Good goal."
It didnt it bounced the ground twice, he cleverly flicked the ball after it bounce on the up. But ball bounced twice, the experts say its ok as he took it into his hands which is a rubbish rule. It didnt matter in the end.

Hard luck Kerry, an edge of the seat game rather than a great game. But at this stage its all about winning, so happy out.

Dublin have been in 11 all ireland finals including replays since 2011. They haven't lost one. Outrageous. Absolutely outrageous.

Replying To foreveryoung:  "Commiserations Mick. Great game imho; more gladiator stuff than William Tell.

I'd say a lot of that Dublin panel might bow out now. What's there then to stop those Kerry lads from adding a few more over the next 5-6 year? Bar Murphy, O'Brien, and Geaney, that's still quite a young squad.

However, I'd prefer my one a decade is enough for any county scenario to transpire!"
"What's there then to stop those Kerry lads from adding a few more over the next 5-6 year?"

If Clifford keeps missing like that, Kerry won't win much.

Replying To Tirchonaill1:  "Maybe some of the reason Clifford didn't 'fire' was because Fitzsimons was putting him under massive pressure?
The occasion got to Clifford a bit I think, too much pressure on him great and all as the lad is.
Kerry will have all Winter to think about those missed chances."
combination of both. Some of his efforts was when put under pressure, others not so much simply wayward shooting by Clifford. His brother was Kerry's best forward today.

Replying To sponger:  "I look at it like this.

Kerry are very reliant on one player. If he has an off day that's it.

Kerry got 2 dubious frees against Derry. If they had not got them they were toast.

Dublin look a bit more structured to me.

I am going to say Dublin by a few points."
I love me.

Couldn't find his kicking boots? He's a full forward on All Ireland Sunday. His brother was more important to Kerry today than he was. His kicking was off, he never passed, total mé féiner out there today.

Wow that's some criticism of Clifford by a Galway poster..it didn't go for him today but it definitely wasn't for want of trying..it didn't go great either for Costello or o Callaghan.

Replying To MachaireConnacht:  "Fitzsimons has to get massive credit."
David Clifford though got a lot of chances off Fitzsimons. Clifford just didn't take those chances like he normally would. He could have had 5 or 6 from play. I'd give man of the match to Paul Mannion. I thought James McCarthy was poor today and was indeed lucky to stay on. He seemed to carry the weight of going for the ninth medal on his shoulders because he has been excellent for the Dubs in other games. Dublin just had a bit more composure down the closing stretch of the game and deserved the win.Separately, I didn't know that a player can bounce the ball twice if they play the ball with the foot rather than the hand off the second bounce. That needs to be clarified because I'd have my doubts about it.

Absolutely agree.

He fell asunder in my opinion.

The fact he was even taking those shots on, his head was gone. Completely.

He's entitled to an off day, but on the biggest stages you will be judged and as amazing as he is, today wasn't the day to have it and its the biggest of big stages.

Thanks Mick, hard luck. I'm very proud and a little stuck for words, I think I said how much this one would mean to me personally and well, what else can I say. I'm in football heaven!
