Monaghan people apparently hate to be told they are punching above their weight. They fully believe it's their weight thanks to the structures in place. Derry certainly on the rise again, 2nd U17 AI title in 4 years and arguably would have won the U20 AI championship this year if the now departed Rory Gallagher had allowed their best players play that grade. Not sure if this has an bearing on yesterday. Maybe putting 2+2 together and getting 6. Knoxboya (Monaghan) - Posts: 342 - 10/07/2023 14:57:34 You are getting 6 alright. RHF (Cavan) - Posts: 883 - 10/07/2023 15:26:27 2493606 Link 0 |

Monaghan far too defensive in the first half with a strong breeze behind them, tactics were far too negative. It was an All-Ireland Final, Monaghan have some very good footballers so they shouldve been allowed to go an express themselves. They were losing at half time, struggled to score with a strong wind, and I knew at that stage they'd struggle against the wind in the 2nd half.

Very true. Almost 14,000 in Armagh yesterday plus all the children. If it was a curtairaiser to the Senior Final, less than 5,000 would get the opportunity to witness it. The big losers would be the Under 16s'. Wonderful atmosphere in Armagh yesterday but little respect for H & S with the closing off of the area behind the goals. Some parts of the terracing opposite the stand were over crowded. On the game itself Derry were deserving winners with what is a very talented group. The Monaghan lads are not far off and a bunch of little things going wrong on the day probably made the difference. Monaghan football is in a good place. Great credit to the young players and their management. Also to the people who had the foresight to put in place the coaching and development squads. People like Paul Curran, Paul O' Connor,Colin Malone,Marty Corey and others. Thanks and we can look forward to that big breakthrough in the not too distant future when we can welcome home All Ireland champions.

Nonsense. They got to an All Ireland Final, playing with that system. Yesterday they lost to a Derry team on top of their game while our lads maybe didn't just get to their normal high standards. No reflection to either the players or management. Was a a very proud Monaghan man before and AFTER the game. Its only a matter of time before we kick down the door at one grade or another.

No issue with that - but I would play it in Croker.

If it could be scheduled....have a triple header of Minor, U20 and Tailteann Finals the Saturday of AI Final weekend.

Sounds like a good plan tbh.

Tactics mirrored each other, Derry had more pace on the transition/counter attack and was far more clinical with their shooting. Monaghan just 9 scores from over 20 shots!
